Understanding how Destiny will play

Bingo. In one sense, if you boil every game down to it's basic concept, there are probably only a handful of games out there. Differentiating between them is about execution and evolution. How well does it deliver on the formula, or combine existing ones? In what ways does it take that formula to the next logical step, or leap-frog entire steps for something totally new?

And FWIW, I enjoy Borderlands 2. I played the first one briefly, but remember shelving it at some point fairly early in the game. For some reason, 2 has captured my interest intensely. I am enjoying the story, the side-quests, improving my arsenal, discovering the world... and I'm not compelled to grind. I'm just naturally progressing through the ranks without much care for what it means, other than sweeter loot.

Haven't done anything with multiplayer yet, but I'd like to at some point.
