This fake tweet from Hello Games got me thinking… what would Bungie do?

Hello Games had a game that was not finished… it wasn't fun… they needed more time. But they released it anyway. But Bungie?

Both times, Bungie delayed their game. Halo 2 and Destiny. And we got fun games.

That's pretty revisionist.

Bungie wanted to delay Halo 2 another whole year and launch on the 360, but Peter had already tattooed himself. The game launched fun, but rough in spots and unfinished. With the continuing treadmill of ever-increasing visual fidelity and texture sizes, trying to hold a game of the same scale with the same features today to a similar schedule would likely have had even worse consequences.

We don't yet know, and may never, know the circumstances that compelled HG to release NMS in the state they did (or even to half-implement a lot of the features that were included, and to announce others that never were and still aren't implemented. Despite being independent it is possible that HG felt at a disadvantage in their relationship with Sony, but was compelled to work with them to finish the game (hence the emphasis on the PS4 version).
