On How we Got Here (Off-Topic)
I think Michael Moore actually pretty much nailed this election with his analysis back in July. Basically it boils down to Hillary was a very unpopular Democrat, Trump campaigned hard in the rust belt, and a lot of Americans are so disillusioned with politics that they will vote for anyone who looks like they are going to change things. It's kind of funny, but in a lot of ways I think Trump won for the same reasons Obama won - Americans were hoping for change. In fact I'd say the third party vote (which has gotten very little coverage so far) is pretty indicative of people wanting change. This year we had an overall 3% vote for the Libertarian party. The previous record for the Libertarian party was 1.07% in 1980 (and 0.99% last election). So we had something like a 3x increase in votes for the third party candidates.
