That sounds awful... Do they give any reasons for not using an authentication program?
Considering that I feel like strangling a Microsoft employee every time that I'm forced to go through their authentication, I'd say that SMS is definitely the way to go. Though I haven't updated security settings since the last time that I was forced to...
Microsoft is the worst, and a big reason I don't have an XB1.
