My headset died, What should I repalace it with? (Gaming)
Last night before the Crota Flawless practice my headset died. I need a new one. I like to play with all audio going through my headphones. Who plays this way & what headset do you use?
I've been thinking about simply getting a mic to go with my Sennheiser HD598s, something like this antlion mic.
What do you guys use?

I like my antlion mic. I'd read up on usage with the PS4, though. You may not need a set up like mine.

They're not cheap, but the Astro A50s are a fantastic headset.
Got A50s for XMas, loving them

Stereo Xbox.
One headset, nearly four years.
Plus, it fits with everything else! (3.5mm)

As Cruel said, the Astro A50s are really great. I didn't think going wireless would be as nice as it truly is.
That said, I got a pair of HD598s recently, and I've taking to using those when I game sometimes if my Astros aren't fully charged or I'm too lazy to get up and get them off the stand. The Astros definitely have better directional sound (whether that's the headphones themselves or some magic with the mixamp, I have no idea), but the 598s still work great, so if you've got a pair of those already, it might be worth looking into Kermit's setup and making that work. I really like having the all-in-one solution of the Astros, but they are $300, which isn't a small chunk of change.

XO SEVEN, Turtle Beach. Totally dumb (not cheap) set.
Plug it into 3.5mm jack XB1 controller for Mic monitoring, chat/game/volume mix. XB1 settings panel.
Sensitive mic but no annoying feedback though plush cabling.
Ear cups are very sound deadening but are sweaty in the summer.
Myself and friends who use these have the least problems of anyone I game with.
Aren't those the ones that borked, though?

So I bought another one. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I enjoy it.

I use the PS4 Gold headset and I love it.
Sound quality is great, cancels a lot of noise and being able to adjust game and chat volume on the fly is very nice. I don't know if I can go back to wired headsets now haha.
If I had anything bad to say about it, it would be that it has the same shitty sony rechargeable batteries as the dual shock controllers so you will charge it a lot if you don't have a super long usb cable.
Buy another Xbone for the headset.

Seconded
Seriously, I use these things all the time and I cannot praise them enough. I can even use these things with my computer and when I watch anything Destiny related on YouTube, it sounds like basically the same, great, simulated surround sound quality as when I'm playing the game. The only real issue I have is the pleather on the ear cuffs starts to flake off after a while. If you do get one, don't buy it brand new though, buy refurbished from the manufacturer, it is so much cheaper and it is the same thing.
Agree on all fronts

^ This has been a good headset for me. It has decent sound and works with other devices via Bluetooth or 3.5mm pass through. It is rather comfortable on the head, but the inside of the ear cup might be a little bit tight on the ear after a long raid or something. Sliding the headset forward laterally on your head/ears slightly creates a little more space within the ear cup.
I ended up getting the headset brand new for $50, which was a killer deal about 2 years ago. I price matched and used gift card/rewards. I really would love Astro's but I have not been able to justify the extra cost for semi-similar base functionality. I also really wanted a headset that would easily work for multiple platforms without much fuss (no extra cables, clunky in-line adapters, or mix amps)
The downside really is the rechargeable battery, which is sealed inside. Expect about 4 hours on a charge like the DS4 controllers.
When researching 'elite' controllers recently I noticed Sony is releasing a new Platinum headset. It appears that it works wirelessly for PS4 over Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth and reportedly has upgraded 3D sound functionality and might be optimized for PSVR?
It is more spendy though, and if I were to spend that much, I might as well just splurge on the A40 or A50
(I'm not currently looking for a headset, I'm content with my Gold headset that is still functioning)

We got Gold headsets at launch, and still have them to this day. Mine's been chewed up, dropped, stepped on (snapped in half), crushed, and the Aux cable was chewed... and it still works. I've patched it up with duct tape, and I've never felt like it is any less reliable (and it works fine on the Xbone).

The neat thing about the Gold headset is that if it's drained of battery, you can simply plug it into the controller with the Aux cable and continue to use it. Sure, it'll drain the controller's battery a bit faster, but it's a good last-resort thing.
$70 is a neat price, but if you want a more advanced headset, Sony just launched the Platinum headset today:

$160, so it's a bit on the pricier side, but we'll be getting one soon, so I'll let you know if it's worth the upgrade.

Doesn't this kill the headset's mic functionality? I remember trying this and being disappointed.

No. It does lose some audio quality (and button functions), but everything audio-wise works fine (including mic).
And the reduced audio quality's fine enough that I haven't charged my headset in well over a year. Then again, I'm not picky; long as I can hear enemy footsteps and which direction they're coming from, I'm happy.
HyperX Cloud
That's what I'm using and it works well for me. http://www.hyperxgaming.com/us/headsets/cloud/h3cl
I'll third.
It's nothing super fancy but the Xbox Stereo Headset is fairly cheap and works pretty well from what I've seen... uh, heard. :)
My headset died, thanks for the suggestions & input!
