Wow Reddit is horrible. People are just shitting on Bungie for how much they sucked at playing crucible during the stream. News flash: the people you see playing aren't the only people who test the game. Their performance is not indicative of their ability to design or balance games.

This is why we can't have nice things.

So glad DBO is civilized. :-)

With HBO/DBO, discussions can be heated, but people tend to give a certain amount of respect to each other/Bungie. At least in the past, there was always the potential that someone from Bungie would read and respond to what you wrote. I think that changes how people talk and the quality of the conversation/criticism.

This is why I've used DBO to curate my xbox live friendships (outside of those I know in person). Posting on the same site that you visit with people you play with makes you accountable for your words. It tends to filter out the drive-by internet jerks who make comments on youtube videos.

All that to say, I don't visit reddit very often. I think it can be good, but there's not a lot that holds the community together and the conversation often suffers. That being said, the sheer volume of users usually means they are quick to turn up interesting things.

Reddit isn't always a cesspool

/r/CruciblePlaybook
/r/CrucibleSherpa

Two fantastic Destiny subs full of excellent people who are good at being excellent to one another.

And then there's /r/DestinyTheGame. Ugh. It's the most obvious sub, and therefore the one full of the most immature people. It is possible to have a reasonable conversation there, but not likely. There are so many people there that the sense of community is lost and it's just a thousand voices yelling into the void, all simply trying to be heard. So of course the loudest and most obnoxious voices are the ones that stand out. It's a perfect simulation of the internet.

But hey, I'm glad you're here, buddy. DBO has a much better community than any stinky old subreddits.

Reddit gets better the deeper you dive . . .

by cheapLEY @, Thursday, February 09, 2017, 20:17 (2936 days ago) @ Kahzgul

Most of the run of the mill subreddits dedicated to a particular game are trash, an everlasting battle between diehard fanboys and haters and trolls.

The more esoteric the subreddit, the better the community is likely to be.

And you might as well just avoid really widespread subs like /r/games unless you just want to see asinine memes that don't even make sense 90% of the time.

Reddit is great once you find the subs you like, but you have to wade through a whole lot of garbage and bullshit to get to those.

How would one find a sub? Especially if one has a strict moral imperative to stay the heck away from the main sub? Do I just start guessing /r's ??

Honestly, I don't even know. Mostly it just happens by spending a lot of time on reddit and following links and rabbit holes until you find cool stuff. There is RedditList, which is literally just a ranking of the top 5,000 subs. Not easy or convenient, but you can just scroll through the list and click on stuff that sounds interesting and find stuff that way. Lots of subs will have links to other relevant or similar subs in their sidebars.

Other than that, if there is a specific subject matter in which you're interested, just google whatever that subject is with "reddit" after it, and you'll nearly always find a sub dedicated to that thing.

There's a sub for finding subs

by ZackDark @, Not behind you. NO! Don't look., Thursday, February 09, 2017, 23:28 (2936 days ago) @ Ragashingo

r/findasubreddit is the one I'm finding right now, but I'm pretty sure there was a less obviously-named one that was more active.

Downside is that if you use it to find an obscure sub, odds are you'll make it less obscure and more likely to be invaded by the very things you're hoping to avoid.

1. Go to the findasubreddit sub before it is ruined by the popularity brought on by your post.
2. Figure out how the heck you post properly on reddit.
3. Fail at posting and correct your numerous mistakes.
4. Ask the findasubreddit sub if they know of the good but really hard to find findasubreddit sub.
5. Ask that sub where the one good Destiny sub is.
6. Enjoy that sub for the brief time it remains good since you just attracted attention to it by having it recommended to you.
7. GOTO 1.
8. Realize that 1 doesn't work anymore because it was ruined sometime between 2 and 7.
9. Continue to ignore reddit as you have always done.

Games is just people posting "news" articles from around the web for the most part. And truegaming is a sub filled with armchair game designers that don't actually have a clue what they're talking about. Reddit gaming subs all kind of suck, really.

I found that taydolfswiftler sub through the "random sub" link. It's pretty nutty.

A few others I love:

/r/TotallyNotRobots

JUST NORMAL HUMAN THINGS *BEEP BOOP*

/r/EyeBleach

Cute things for saving your sanity after you accidentally visit the more disturbing parts of the internet.

/r/RetiredGifs

Links to places where gifs were used in the most perfect way possible. Sometimes this takes some digging, and you really don't know what sort of thread you're going to end up in, but the gif will always be gold.

Well, it was pretty funny. But Bungie is also a big time corporation playing in the big leagues. This PR situation was entirely foreseeable and therefore really doesn't deserve any sympathy. Big boys don't make these kinds of mistakes when they are on the ball. Seriously, never. This was a "not ready for prime time" mistake.

Love Bungie as much as anyone. This was a brain fart / cock up. Happens to the best of us. The live team / last folks on D1 probably don't have all the support they need. Not Reddit's fault

Fun story from CoD:BRO Behind the Scenes

by Kahzgul, Sunday, February 12, 2017, 07:51 (2933 days ago) @ ShadowDancing

Our producer was the guy driving for the cameras, so we (the many testers in the game) had strict instructions not to kill him so he didn't look like a scrub. At one point he sent out the "everyone stop moving so I can demonstrate something cool" signal to us, and then proceeded to walk through my crosshairs three times before sniping me in the head. I'm sure the footage looked great, but the forum was full of "wow QA_Lead" is terrible at this game posts afterwards. And this was a LOOOOONG time ago. I would probably have been doxxed in this day and age with hate mail sent to my house.
