Destiny at 4K and 60 FPS on PC [video]

I'm not even going to pretend that this doesn't make me want to build a PC.
I'm building one now!

But unless I want to spend nearly as much on the graphics card as I've budgeted for the entire build, I'm still out of luck. Right now CPU power takes priority. Maybe I'll snag one of these GTX 1080s when they're closer to $100 in a couple of years.
Or maybe I can get away with telling the wife, "if I just spend $500 on the video card, I can get Destiny 2 for FREE!!!
Eh. Probably not.

I've been telling myself I'm going to make it happen for five years now, but it just never does. I guess it's just not a priority. I know I could build one for a reasonable price, I know if I did that, I'd still just be wishing I had built the 1080 powered beast instead. Someday, maybe I'll get around to it.

I'd probably be fine with my current PC if I hadn't started trying to re-encode videos of my kid's soccer games. Re-encoding to h.265 drops the files from 8GB for about an hour of video down to around 1GB, but it currently takes 36 hours to complete. That was enough to get me started looking for parts, but when my Facebook feed showed me one of those "remember when" posts of me finishing my current PC seven years ago, I figured it was about time to make this happen. :p

Cheap out, buy a 1060, play in 60fps 1080p.

I'm going to keep using my old ass AMD quad core processor and 750 Ti until I literally can't play any games because I don't really care about quality. Sad part is games have taken away resolutions lower than 1280x720 a lot.

Meh. I don't want to spend money on something that I plan on replacing as soon as I'm able, so I'm just going to steal the old Radeon HD 7850 from my current build for now. The next time I pay for a GPU, it'll be a full jump to something that can handle 4K/60fps.

Edit: Fixed model number. Not sure where 7780 came from.
Cheaping out?

How is buying a video card that costs as much as an entire console "cheaping out"?
Same way buying a Cayman is cheaping out on a 911.

That's because everybody has an LCD, and there aren't any LCDs with resolutions below 720p. You can't really run games in alternate resolutions anymore without it looking like crap. LCDs have fixed resolutions unlike the CRTs of old. While it weighs 70 lbs, I had a monitor that looked "good" whether set to 640 x 480 for old games, or 1600 x 1200 for newer 3D games.
Games would literally be unplayable below 720p:

They seem very impressed. No performance drops at max settings on a 1080 Ti. I'm so glad they aren't making it as a port, it shows in the quality of the graphics.

This one was much easier to watch. The previous video had sooo much ... twitch/jitter(?) from the mouse. It looked as if the player was picking up & moving the mouse a lot. This felt much smoother to me.
