HDR confirmed in the PS4 trailer...

I mean, it was pretty strongly implied from Mark Noseworthy, but this is the first time that I've seen it flat-out promised.
Combine that with the Dynamic 4k already on the PS4 version, and we're gonna be seeing some pretty gorgeous screenshots down the road...

I must have missed where HDR was promised in that video, but I didn't see it, just the little bit about "Dynamic 4k" on the ps4 pro.

During the part where the PS4 Pro is shown, the text at the bottom says "HDR in Destiny 2 is coming soon after launch".

Ah. I didn't have enough time to read to the end & when I paused it it was obscured with a popup for other videos. I see it now. I think that would deserve it's own bullet point.

If they can do HDR on a PS4 Pro

Microsoft, as of a lengthy Eurogamer interview at Gamescom, is saying absolutely nothing.

The innuendos were there though. Nothing can be said about the Scorpio version until after the game and XB1X release.

So I'm of two minds about enhanced versions. Either the Scorpio version is pegged at the same settings as PS4 Pro or it is ridiculously better. I'm hoping for the latter.

Interesting XB1X info.

"If they can do HDR on a PS4 Pro"

To be fair, they can do HDR on regular launch day PS4s. I think the Slim Xbone supports it as well, which is why its absence is becoming more and more baffling as time goes on (I mean, The Last of Us remastered came out in 2014, well before "HDR" became a buzzword, and it supports HDR, but current AAA games don't?).

I do wonder what they have planned for XB1X, since they confirmed that it's running at 30fps. Maybe they can use that trade-off to good effect, assuming that Bungie wants to cater to a small niche of what has been, and might possibly continue to be (assuming that D2 is a smash on PC, which I don't see as being likely) their smallest current-gen playerbase. Then again, they might be able to play off of the PC enhancements, so it might be possible to see some of that trickle down to XB1X, and more so as the years go by..

The trick isn't whether the console has that option or not, but whether it can simultaneously do it while running the game at acceptable framerates. Are you sure the regular PS4 can do both with Destiny 2? I'm not, but maybe you know something I don't.

Honestly, Destiny 2 doesn't look like a massive leap up from D1, so I doubt it's pushing the GPU of the original PS4s to the point where HDR would be an issue (not that I'm an expert). So I'll say "maybe", but yeah, there might be stuff neither of us knows holding that back.

That said, it's definitely one of the reasons that i'm not into the whole 4k hype train. Give me better-looking games with HDR and stable framerates any day. If the dynamic 4k can help the Pro or XB1X support HDR and higher resolution, then that's a win in my book (inb4 60fps neckbeards).

And hey, as neat as it is, it's ultimately just minor stuff, I'm just hopeful about the screenshot potential. In the end, there's always PC for those really into that stuff.

Cody was indeed right to support my dismissal of 4k as a thing that developers should be catering to, yes. ;)

While Destiny 2 might not look like a graphical improvement when compared to Destiny 1, it would be wholly incorrect (as you seem to be aware) to presume that, there for, nothing has been done. To what has been publicly mentioned, it is safe to say that they are using the extra horses less for looks, and more for game-play related items. Scope and size of the maps, number of foes, so forth.

The question then becomes can the hardware support all the game-play upgrades plus the newer visual hardware niceties such as 10 bit color, HDR, 4k, and so on.

Yeah I'm really curious considering how close to it's chest MS has been about the ACTUAL power of the XB1X.

As a PS4 and XB1 owner I am definitely picking up scorpio and then considering the PS4 Pro maybe mid next year to play through a few exclusives.

Part of the issue is I have a 2 year old 4k TV that doesn't do HDR and so I'm also kind of waiting on replacing that before fully diving into the HDR party.

A smart advertisement to try to reach out to people who have never played Destiny before. Plus we got a very brief glimpse of the 6-player raid.

It seems that Bungie has big time upped their game in the video production department. These trailers have been great.

Also, at 15 seconds, you see the banners blowing in the breeze...BACKWARDS...AGAIN!

Why do they do this? Do they not know how billowing fabric works? Sheesh meebo!
