Polygon's review in progress

IGN's review in progress

Ars Technica

Apparently all of these guys got to play for 15 to 20 hours in a private press event a week or so ago. They're posting their impressions today, with full reviews coming "over the next few weeks" as they play the retail release. So really this is like 50% GG bungie and 50% why can't you just let reviewers play the game early so they can really tell us how they feel.

Of note: Bungie made sure to tell them all that there would be changes patched in day 1. So grain of salt on everything they say here. That being said, they all point out that how sparrows work is dumb (you get it as a reward at the end of the campaign, OR as a drop from a microtransaction. Weaksauce IMO. Polygon loved how he unlocked his hunter subclass, and IGN thought it was arbitrary how the unlock started. I suspect it's not a "random" drop but rather one which is scripted to happen once you've passed some specific milestone. And everyone loved the story, which has me sold.

So there you go. Enjoy some reviews. Now that the press has had its say, feel free to day 1 "pre-order" with my blessing. Not that you needed it :)

Even setting aside the fact that you can’t really know what the game is going to be like until it has a huge number of people in it, it’s probably because the game wasn’t done yet. Just look at the not ready for launch day in game guild features for an example.
