I'll admit I'm a bit confused by what's happening here. I guess reading off symbols doesn't actually matter in this scenario?

So the guy in the shadow realm just got sucked all the way to the end and stuck himself against the geometry so he couldn't die.

If you kill the wrong dog in the throne room, the barrier that normally prevents the players in the shadow realm from getting sucked in is removed. The key, I think, is that only the barrier the players are currently at disappears--killing a psion in the throne room starts the next part of the encounter, regardless of which psion is killed. So as long as the barrier being removed doesn't kill the players in the shadow realm, they can continue as normal, so long as they're still killing their psions in there.
