Non-spoilery raid load-out suggestions? (Destiny)

by Kermit @, Raleigh, NC, Monday, October 02, 2017, 11:53 (2689 days ago)

I'm finally getting to raid this weekend! I just hit 280 on my warlock, and I'm about to load up on legendary mods.

Any advice on mods, load-outs, elemental damage that can worded in a way that does not spoil the raid?

Chappy, I'm looking at you.

Specific mods don't really matter, so feel free to slap whatever you have on whatever you plan to use.

As for loadout, Auto Rifles are great at every point in the raid, and pretty much everything else is serviceable, so it's really up to personal preference.

However!
SMGs and Sidearms will have extremely limited utility in the raid, and can in fact be a detriment (if you're one of those who runs MIDA Minitool as a buff for your multitool, you're likely going to be a liability). Without spoiling mechanics, there are instances where you're going to want to be accurate at range, so be sure that both of your weapons can handle it when the other runs out of ammo (which does happen).

As far as Heavy goes, it will be up to your role/preference (I've used the whole spectrum with success, but prefer Swords, since I like to focus on adds while being up close), but beware the high risk of suicide if you use the Wardcliff Coil. Death is costly in the raid.

That last sentence is probably the most important.

I like rockets for all but one encounter, where I prefer the sword.

Scout rifle plus your favorite energy weapon should get you through.

Death is costly in the raid.

I don't currently have great armor for resilience--should I focus on improving that?

I'd say it depends on the encounter. In one fight I wished I had better mobility, but it's all important really, so depends on your playstyle.

Yes. Resilience or Recovery. Mobility can be very useful in parts of the raid, but not at the cost of not being able to stay alive.

Korny nailed it. Scouts and Auto Rifles are great. Swords are great for lots of encounters, as are rockets if you can avoid blowing yourself up.

And make sure the titan is dueling pulse grenades. None of that shield nonsense.

Titans running rally barricade can be helpful at times. Celestial Nighthawk has been handy for me on hunter. I think most warlocks I have run with were using stormcaller for the arc souls. I can think of one instance they are pretty useful.

I agree with the above posts on weapons. Scouts, autos, and rockets are the best. Swords have good use at times too. I used Mida in one area and felt it gave me an advantage.

scout rifle is good all around, but will be very beneficial in one encounter, as well as solar burn in the same encounter

coldheart (or merciless) is a good exotic DPS choice

mobility will be beneficial

I run:

1. Better Devils (HC)
2. The End (Scout)
3. Hawthorne's Field-Forged Shotgun

Except for one encounter for which I use:

1. Auto Rifle
2. Hand cannon
3. Rockets

Good luck!!!

Sorry for the late reply, Kermit. I agree with most of what's already been suggested:

Classes: I would recommend at least one Warlock and at least one titan - their support class abilities can be very helpful. I have completed an all-hunter run though, so anything will work.

Armor: Favor Resilience and Recovery.

Armor Mods: I'd recommend an energy recoil reduction mod on your gauntlets if you're using an auto rifle, and resilience/recovery boosters on your helm/legs for survivability. Your chest and class item can favor additional recoil reduction, power weapon reload, class ability recharge or grenade ability recharge boosters to your preference.

Kinetic Weapons: Auto Rifles and Scout rifles are best for mid-range accuracy and bullet volume. Nameless Midnight is a fantastic Scout rifle. Origin Story is a common favorite Auto (I prefer it's stability over Scathelock).

Energy Weapons: Shielded enemies are uncommon, but I'd recommend solar for when they do appear. Perhaps not specific to the raid, but ammunition feels scarce - I recommend Auto or Scout Energy Rifles to supplement your kinetic. The Number, Prospector, and Uriel's Gift all excel here.

Power Weapons: A cluster bomb rocket (Curtain Call available from Zavala rank ups) would be my recommendation for ranged maximum damage. For closer combat, I've used a rapid fire shotgun (Hawthorne's Field-Forged Shotgun is amazing and drops from the gunsmith).

Exotic Armor: Nothing is "required" - as always, just play to your strengths and what's in your inventory. That being said:
Warlocks might appreciate "Eye of Another World" or "Winter’s Guile" if they're running Devour.
Titans with auto rifles have probably already discovered "Actium War Rig".
Hunters should still appreciate "Celestial Nighthawk", and might have discovered the benefits of "Raiden Flux" or "Orpheus Rig" depending on subclass.

Exotic Weapons: Coldheart may surprise you - it's a large-ammo-reserve auto rifle accurate and deadly at range. For pure DPS, Merciless can do very well at short ranges.

spoiler-free loadout advice

Chappy, I'm looking at you.

You'll be fine with whatever you bring. There are no "must use" weapons or loadouts. If at any point you feel like "wow, I could really use a (whatever)" you can just get one between wipes. Enjoy the raid!!!
