While I sit here in the corner, rocking back and forth, trying to dispel the horror of waiting more than 2 weeks to finally get D2 (for PC), EA has "graciously" allowed us mere mortals to play the BF2 Beta. Let's go shoot some Rebel scum!
Awesome!

This game looks really good. And so much "deeper" than Battlefront (2015)(it was 2015 right?).
Even better!

They also put 2005’s Battlefront II servers back online. Go play that instead!

The hangars, CIC, life support nodes, engine rooms, and shield emitters of Providence-class carriers and Venator-class destroyers aren’t as fun as I remembered way back when. I played day after day of space combat in the original Battlefront II as a kid and loved it. Going back so many years later it felt remarkably lifeless and tedious to boot. The flying many of those same flaws.
+1

Starfighter Assault

Only thing that would make this better is actually getting to board enemy vessels or repel boarding parties. Each Starfighter Assault match is broken down into three phases. Fondor’s objectives are attack/defend Imperial corvettes, attack/defend the shipyard’s shield generators and Rebel corvettes, and ultimately attack/defend the docked star destroyer.
The last objective is awfully boring across all three ship classes and as both the defending Empire and the attacking Alliance. Transitioning from dogfighting and bombing to close-quarters combat aboard ship would surely keep you on your toes at all time. The spawn economy for the attacking Rebels would be forced into the team’s consciousness to a much greater degree during space combat. Hopefully, they’d see their ships as an extension of themselves and as an asset, not merely a toy to be discarded with. Pilots in Starfighter Assault are far too relaxed with placing themselves into perilous situations they couldn’t hope to pull out of the fire.
Also, those default starfighter controls? I almost quit this game entirely thinking that was all they offered. Maybe I just haven’t slept...

I don't know what you're talking about, that's how it works in Battlefront II...
I'll grant that I dunno about this whole IV installment, though.
(Haha whoops missed what you said about it not aging so well earlier. Oh well.)

How dare you...
Also, was Fondor in 2005’s SWBFII? Feels like it should be but I’m pretty sure they relegated its locales to film settings exclusively.

Dunno what you're talking about, I'm loving every second of it. I do agree the tight-quarters phase should probably be the climax, though, as opposed to the middle phase.
*Bragging warning*
I'm having SO MUCH FUN

Oh, I totally agree! There’s plenty of fun to be had. Applying Star Cards to Starfighter Assault and tying Hero Ships to battle points (or whatever) instead of random chance are two welcomed additions. I wonder what else there are for SA maps.
