Starfighter Assault (Gaming)

Only thing that would make this better is actually getting to board enemy vessels or repel boarding parties. Each Starfighter Assault match is broken down into three phases. Fondor’s objectives are attack/defend Imperial corvettes, attack/defend the shipyard’s shield generators and Rebel corvettes, and ultimately attack/defend the docked star destroyer.

The last objective is awfully boring across all three ship classes and as both the defending Empire and the attacking Alliance. Transitioning from dogfighting and bombing to close-quarters combat aboard ship would surely keep you on your toes at all time. The spawn economy for the attacking Rebels would be forced into the team’s consciousness to a much greater degree during space combat. Hopefully, they’d see their ships as an extension of themselves and as an asset, not merely a toy to be discarded with. Pilots in Starfighter Assault are far too relaxed with placing themselves into perilous situations they couldn’t hope to pull out of the fire.

Also, those default starfighter controls? I almost quit this game entirely thinking that was all they offered. Maybe I just haven’t slept...
