It's not often we see change of this magnitude. Not everyday that that a Bungie.Org site moves one step close to the present day internet. Yes, I'm talking about the addition of forum avatars! Now more and more posters have these mysterious spheres squares in the corner of their post depicting people or places or things, and sometimes vowels. So, I'm curious, what is the history of your avatar? What does it mean? How does it represent you? And most importantly, what the heck is it? :p
I'll start:
For several years I ran with the innertubed hippo that shows in the corner of HBO from time to time. You know, this one:
After a few years though I got tired of it. And then I came across this image and thought it fit me perfectly.
(Desktop sized for your pleasure):
I always enjoyed being the positive one in a sea of frowns. I use this avatar everywhere I am on the internets, and now low and behold, I can use it here too! :)
So, what's your avatar's story?

You wouldn't believe how hard it was to convince Claude to allow forum avatars.
Blackmail, arm-twisting, ransoms, waterboarding, etc. Just watch this historical reenactment:

Heh... I only used that because it was the only square image I could come up with on short notice when we were testing whether the upload directory had the right perms set. I was going to remove it, since it's Halo-related, not Destiny-related, but Duncan convinced me that since it's an easter egg in a Bungie game that's related to me, I'm fine using it. (The question that sealed it: "If it were from Marathon, would you be okay with it?" The answer was "yes", so there was no reason NOT to use it.)

... But that guy over there is named Master Craw. I created him for a concept art character design contest a few years ago, and made this piece "Learning to Fly" where he's teaching a crazy old man how to use his wings.
I love Mouse Guard, Redwall - anything with warrior animals who can speak. That part of my inner child will never change. I tend to add voices and names to squirells I pass by, so yeah, slightly crazy.
Anyway, he showed up again (and that crazy old man) in something I did last year where I was experimenting with digitally coloring scanned-in pencils.
He's been in a lot of sketches since then, with this squirrel as his sidekick with a crossbow. There's a map of an island plotted. Just one of those stories in the back of my head I pull out when I want to have some fun and not be stressed out by some project I've thought about way too much.

Well the one you can see the face of definitely seems to be a gauge, but the other could very well be a mirror - that might be pretty helpful if he's expecting a dogfight (which I'm imagining to be actual dogs in biplanes).

All of the dogs were wonderful in that movie. I just don't understand why they have to bring down so many films from perfection by putting boring humans in them.
They seriously make up 97% of the horrible acting in the Tranformers films.

I really really dislike those movies.
I'm sure the 80's cartoons and toys helped me form the impression, but I just meant Optimus Prime actually feels like a sentient being next to that Shia kid and the Replaceable Hot Girl. As much as I enjoy Transformers fighting each other with cool voices, I just cringe way too much whenever the fleshy pink things show up or get way too bored when the US Army advertisements start playing. Though Mark Walberg [EDIT] and apparently the Girl In the Fireplace [/EDIT], is a definite upgrade in the actors, I've sworn to give no more money to Michael Bay.
Do they indicate armpit sweat levels?!???

Definitely. Very traditional, serious, grounded fantasy/medieval adventure, but with cool mice, rats, rodents, etc. But they both have several unique elements to them so I've never felt like they Mouse Guard is retreading the same ground.
Like you, but the opposite, I actually only got around to starting Redwall this summer, even though it's been on my to-read list since middle school. I found a first edition hardcover of the first novel last year and knew: this was the sign I was waiting for. :)

They're good stories. Though, like Ragashingo, I haven't read any of them in a long time. For a while, I read them pretty religiously. I always liked the tails (seewutididthar?) concerning ships and otters and the like.

This is me making "use" of images I took, but did not use, while making my recent Halo 3/ODST/Reach posts on HBO.
Snowbound's skybox is geometrically pleasing.

Mine is of the very-near-final design for the Mark 4 helmet seen in Venerance.
I just love looking at it, as it seems to hit that sweet spot between all the Mark 4 and 5 helmets we've seen before. Whenever I think of SPARTAN-IIs fighting The Covenant for those 27 years, helmets like this are what pop into my head.
Can't wait to see the FINAL version of it.

So, what's your avatar's story?
I worked at a company where they got a caricature artist to do a caricature of every member of staff to put on their ‘About us’ page, but they took so long to get it sorted out that by the time it was done I'd already decided to move on. I don't think it ever actually made it live, but I got to keep the PSDs which let me create nonsense like this (was going to be used on the bungie.org playing cards, I think, until it became clear no Halo-related imagery would be allowed).

...because while I can craft a finely tailored story, graphic design is my kryptonite. I can build almost anything you want in Photoshop/Illustrator, but coming up with the initial concept? Yeah, not so much. I happened to capture a nice selfie while working at my (standing) desk one day, threw a few Camera+ filters on it, and now I use it pretty much anywhere I have a web presence. Someday, maybe I'll find (or design) an avatar I like better, but for now, this is me. :)

I have a number of ideas. I usually do. If the time comes we are allowed a randomizer like H.B.O has then I look forward to adding a few more of the same posted theme. I imagine once DBO starts becoming archived, unless Wu keeps the picture files as well, these posts are going to lose some impact.
Just not right now.
The avatar I have at the time of post is composed off pieces of my Original Internet Home.
(Offnote: Reading some of those posts - in retrospect - is darn scary how every concern became like a prophecy. Ho-ly Sh*t.)
The avatar is composed of Emblems. They were never really explained, but we were vaguely aware of the gist in their purpose. Edit: Which was to "award" deeds done - mods, posts, contests, "readers only club", ect.
Construct|Golden Age
ONI|Mad Hatter
Executioner|Magic Era
Acolyte|Connoisseur
USA|Architect
Maybe I'm just sentimental. Maybe its just more then that. I still haven't decided if this is the final version - but as of this post it is for now. :)
Just in case - and for future reference - there is a quote that I have always found dementedly humorous.
"I have the heart of a little girl. In a jar. On my desk." At some-point I will probably have the respective avatar here as well.
Oh, splendid.

My avatar is one that I made recently, because I enjoy putting together my own avatars. The C and 5 dots is from edmDistrict which is a online community focused around Electronic Dance Music (which I enjoy). You might have seen similar avatars on YouTube where most of the community is based, anyways I thought the design was cool so I used the white community version and applied the Destiny Tricorn in the middle because I love Destiny!
