Um... ice IS heavier than water. Well, some ice, anyway. And some water.
0 degree (celsius) water is denser than pretty much all water above 8 degrees.

I don't like being Mr. Literal, but I'm confused by this comment. Ice is less dense than water (remember, it floats) due to how water molecules arrange themselves when they freeze. One of the few materials that actually expands when it freezes.
