Rat King malfunction (on PS4) (Destiny)

We finished Nightfall with seconds to spare. Both my fireteam members had the gun in their inventory, yet it didn't unlock for me.

(Sorry, kupkake and Vinny--I thought I saw it, but that was another exotic.)

Any clues as to what went wrong? What are the real rules? There seems to be no definitive agreement or source on the Internet. Must it be equipped by another fireteam member?

Robot Chickens and UpNorth, did either you have it equipped the other night?

(That's something that bugs me about quests sometimes. I understand the riddle and the desire to have players figure these things out, but clarification from an authority when there is misinformation on the Bungie forum would be helpful.)
