You're not alone
I think it takes a level of dedication that doesn't seem to exist at the moment in our community (on the PS4 side).
I find your idea of accomplishing it in one night hilarious, but if a group would like to dedicate a few weeks to trying, I'm game.

It's totally doable in one night. But the Xbox team did it over 4-5 nights. And that was after failing on the baths 2-3 weeks in a row. I'm not saying you can't, but it's really rough.

A lot of it comes down to luck unless you're experts on the encounters. If you know what you're doing (but aren't doing it every week) I'd set your expectations for a week.

I'm sure it is, but not with a team that isn't familiar and practiced (preferably together) in the strategies that are required. I know I'm not considered part of any dream team, but the people I suspect Cody is trying to recruit aren't raiding on normal, much less prestige (as far as I can tell).

Not exactly a "dream team" member myself, but I have regularly been on Cody's raid teams, and while I'm certain that they can knock it out in two or three nights, I have absolutely zero interest in doing a prestige raid (or any raid, for that matter).
And I feel like most of the actual "Dream Team" folks are on the same boat as well, so Prestige will very likely be Cody's Hawkmoon.

I won't pester you to join us any more then.
So you're not even interested in the raid lair that you were saving yourself for? Bummer. It's fun.

Well, I'm still blind on it, and we do still have the team gearing up for it, but several games have pulled us all away, and we still haven't set a date for it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'll still jump on to Destiny if anyone still needs the Acrius Arms Dealer mission, or wants to do some Crucible or whatever.

Ditto. I’ll still play Destiny, my heart just isn’t in it enough to commit to banging my head against a Prestige raid.

You gotta have a lot more commitment than that
Serious. I want to do one. Dream team assemble for one night only. Other than the 14th or the 17th. How about the 20th on the reset?
Even if our good ole D1 PS4 Dream Team reassembled, there is no way we would get through it in one night. I don't even think we would have a high likelihood of success if we committed to just 3-4 nights in a one-off week.
If you want to tackle the Prestige Leviathan, it's going to require you (and the same 5 other people) to start by raiding regularly on normal mode until you're consistently beating it in about an hour, and then you can start thinking about dedicating at least 3-4 hours per night, 3-4 nights in a week to hope to successfully beat one encounter per night.

I just don't enjoy the raid or Destiny 2 enough to make that kind of commitment, unfortunately.
I very much miss raiding with you guys, but at this point I think I'd rather jump into D1 with everyone and play those raids. We never did try to do Wrath of the Machine flawless ;)

Huh, that's interesting to hear you say... I know others (perhaps myself included, I'm certainly open to the idea) have talked about going back to play some D1 because it interests them more than D2.
We should schedule another throwback raid, maybe once a month?

I’ve talked about this before, but D2’s weapon category breakdown (kinetic/energy/power) really is a fatal flaw for my long term enjoyment of the game. That plus the way the ability trees have been reduced to binary choices makes everything feel too same-y and repetitive for me. But with D1, I feel like I have a more diverse range of builds and loadouts on tap, so I can play the game in countless different ways depending on what I’m in the mood for.

You keep saying this, and I understand what you are saying. I can kinda understand this if you have one guardian. I've played the raid lair now with all three and 5 different classes, obviously with different loadouts. I guess you just need more variety than that?
I totally understand if you don't like the new weapon system and the ability trees. But to say you can't find diversity in how you play the raid... that seems hard to believe to me. I mean I have: Character X subclass X weapons X raid role = tons of diversity.
Every raid is different.

I think it's definitely true for PvE, and even PvP as well.
The thing is, having two primaries doens't matter because they are the same idea of weapon. Low damage, high ammo, used for clearing ads. The three slots in Destiny were all very different. You had much more choice.
The thing that did need fixing was the reliance on snipers in PvE, since they were overwhelmingly the best option against bosses. But that could have been addressed without completely eliminating the special archetype.

Every raid is different.
The thing with the D word (diversity) is that, like any of this subjective stuff, its a case of degrees. In Destiny 2, I don't find that switching from Hunter to Titan to Warlock changes the way I play the game that much. There are certainly differences, and those differences can lead to taking different roles during an activity like a raid. And for me, those differences were enough to keep the game exciting for maybe 50 or 100 hours. But with D2, I quickly abandoned running multiple characters because it all just felt too repetitive and too much the same for me to have fun with it. The differences weren't as impactful for me as they were in D1. That, combined with the weapon categorization, is enough to kill D2's long term appeal for me.
I still think its a fantastic game, and I had plenty of fun with it. I'm more than happy with the time I spent with it. I just find that, for me, the game doesn't hold up well for months and months on end. And that's fine... very few games do. Despite all the ways it drove me crazy, I found D1 to be a game that I could keep finding new and exciting ways to engage with the combat. D2, not so much.

I myself don't really play Destiny very much at all unless there is new content or there are people I know who want to play.
I guess the point I was making is that there IS diversity there, I guess it's just not diversity to you because of the fun you get out of it. And that's okay. Play for enjoyment, that is all you can and should do.

How the crap was a shotgun or fusion rifle not the go-to weapon for Golgoroth? Sniper for the Warpriest makes sense, but you're right smack dab in front of Golgy, you could shake his hand if he'd let you. It seems obvious that a shotty to that huge gut would be the way to take him down, but nope.

I actually tried that - the range between the pool you had to stand in and his belly was great enough that you missed a huge amount of damage using a shotgun.
Also, wanted to put in a small argument about the fact that primary/energy are the same idea of weapon, above - I use energy weapons to rip down shields, something that you CAN'T do with a primary. (Occasionally, I forget that i'm not using my energy weapon when fighting a strong shielded enemy, and wonder why it's taking so many shots.) Yes, they're interchangeable once shields are down... but there are enough shielded enemies (especially in the current activities) that treating them as the same category doesn't make sense to me.

I thought energy did less damage to regulars than kinetic? It doesn't matter in PvP which is why people use whatever they got, but in PvE I thought it mattered.
Maybe the very fact that I am asking this question means it doesn't matter but... whatever.

I understand what most apparently don't, but I like the new preset trees. My entire experience with the skill trees in Destiny 1 was me running whatever I was told to run by whoever I was raiding with at the time and then me noticing almost no difference in the way anything felt (other than the obvious changing of powers).
I totally agree with the weapon system. As fun as running Lucky Pants with a pair of handcannons is, I very much prefer the old weapon system. I miss heavy machine guns, I miss being able to use a shotgun or a sniper rifle and not feel like I'm giving up huge amounts of DPS when I need it.

No, I'm almost positive that you're correct. Energy weapons do less damage to non-shielded enemies.

Here’s how it breaks down for me:
They’re interchangeable in terms of feel. A kinetic AR and an energy AR are identical in all ways, except the energy version gets a damage boost against specific enemies. So when I see an enemy with a shield, I’ll switch to my energy (doesn’t matter which element, really... since all energy weapons deal extra damage against shields of any type) but that’s all it takes. Nothing else about the moment-to-moment combat changes.
In D1, using any secondary weapon was a substantially different experience than using any primary weapon. Even if you take the elemental damage out of the equation, using a sniper or a shotgun requires a very different skill set than using an AR, SR, HC, etc. While playing D1, my brain would feel like it was switching gears any time I switched to a secondary weapon because I couldn’t approach combat with them the same way I did with my primary. But in D2, that doesn’t really happen. I don’t need to “switch gears”.
Now obviously, not all primary weapons in D2 are identical. So using a scout rifle and using sidearm are different experiences. The differences just aren’t as extreme as the differences between any D1 primary and any D1 secondary. And that adds to the feeling of homogenization that I get from a lot of Destiny 2’s combat. It’s not that there is no diversity, but I find the diversity has been cut back just a little in multiple different dimensions, and I find the cumulative effect quite noticeable.
I’m not trying to make the case that any of this is a problem. It’s just a difference that I feel between the two games, and I prefer the way things all balanced in D1.

Don't let Prestige raid be my Hawkmoon
I very much miss raiding with you guys, but at this point I think I'd rather jump into D1 with everyone and play those raids. We never did try to do Wrath of the Machine flawless ;)
Nor King's Fall.
Well, we aren’t THAT masochistic ;p

I’ve talked about this before, but D2’s weapon category breakdown (kinetic/energy/power) really is a fatal flaw for my long term enjoyment of the game.
I thought energy did less damage to regulars than kinetic? It doesn't matter in PvP which is why people use whatever they got, but in PvE I thought it mattered.Maybe the very fact that I am asking this question means it doesn't matter but... whatever.
I remember being told that Energy did less damage than Kinetic to unshieoded enemies, and then being told that was a rumour and not true. Either way, if there is a difference, it can’t be significant. I’d use energy weapons all the time against rank-and-file mobs and not feel like I was doing any less damage than I would with a kinetic.

Diversity up the ying yang
I miss heavy machine guns
Cleaning out my hard disk I threw away a bunch of old Destiny captures. Looking at them, I really really miss Thunderlord with Field Scout :-(

Yeah, I don't have the same beef w/ the "2 primaries" as other people do. I like being able to carry a handcannon + something else. Although, I think it would be fun if the "primaries" had a little greater variety, similar to Halo's non-power weapons.

I think I'd enjoy D2's system a lot more if I enjoyed more of the weapon types. As it is, I just don't have fun playing with Hand Cannons (aside from Sunspot, aka the best Destiny gun ever), Sub Machine Guns, Sidearms (except for that rediculous IB sidearm, lol). I like a couple Pulse Rifles. I use scout rifles because they are effective, but I don't find them particularly fun most of the time. So it's not at all uncommon for me to end up running 2 Auto Rifles. So yeah, not the most diverse experience for me, lol.

Dude, I got normal mode down pat. I'm ready!
lol - you might have missed his point. It's not about what YOU have down pat - it's what YOUR TEAM has down pat. (Nobody's gonna be soloing Prestige any time soon.)
this.

What light level should one hit before attempting prestige? I can’t remember where exactly my PS4 characters are sitting, but I think my Titan is somewhere around 315, and my other characters are down around 300.

Enemies are 330, so your 315 character can barely do ANY damage, and the rest can't even touch them.

Isn't prestige level 300?
And according to this thread: here on reddit, being overleveled doesn't help.

I thought 300 was the light level? If what you say is the case, I now have no interest in a prestige raid. I absolutely refuse to grind this time around.

Recommended light power level is 300; and per the reddit thread Squid posted above, you don't need to be "overleveled". So no, you do not need to grind to get a higher power level, but I just want it to be clear that trying to beath Leviathan Prestige, even with a solid group that you raid with weekly, is a very challenging -- you might even say "grinding" -- experience, and that will only be exacerbated exponentially if you are trying to do it as a "one-off" attempt.
Oops, my bad.
Not sure what I was thinking...

That's fine. I just need 5 others who want to too.
