Diversity up the ying yang (Destiny)

Serious. I want to do one. Dream team assemble for one night only. Other than the 14th or the 17th. How about the 20th on the reset?

I just don't enjoy the raid or Destiny 2 enough to make that kind of commitment, unfortunately.

I very much miss raiding with you guys, but at this point I think I'd rather jump into D1 with everyone and play those raids. We never did try to do Wrath of the Machine flawless ;)

Huh, that's interesting to hear you say... I know others (perhaps myself included, I'm certainly open to the idea) have talked about going back to play some D1 because it interests them more than D2.

We should schedule another throwback raid, maybe once a month?

I’ve talked about this before, but D2’s weapon category breakdown (kinetic/energy/power) really is a fatal flaw for my long term enjoyment of the game. That plus the way the ability trees have been reduced to binary choices makes everything feel too same-y and repetitive for me. But with D1, I feel like I have a more diverse range of builds and loadouts on tap, so I can play the game in countless different ways depending on what I’m in the mood for.

You keep saying this, and I understand what you are saying. I can kinda understand this if you have one guardian. I've played the raid lair now with all three and 5 different classes, obviously with different loadouts. I guess you just need more variety than that?

I totally understand if you don't like the new weapon system and the ability trees. But to say you can't find diversity in how you play the raid... that seems hard to believe to me. I mean I have: Character X subclass X weapons X raid role = tons of diversity.

Every raid is different.

The thing with the D word (diversity) is that, like any of this subjective stuff, its a case of degrees. In Destiny 2, I don't find that switching from Hunter to Titan to Warlock changes the way I play the game that much. There are certainly differences, and those differences can lead to taking different roles during an activity like a raid. And for me, those differences were enough to keep the game exciting for maybe 50 or 100 hours. But with D2, I quickly abandoned running multiple characters because it all just felt too repetitive and too much the same for me to have fun with it. The differences weren't as impactful for me as they were in D1. That, combined with the weapon categorization, is enough to kill D2's long term appeal for me.

I still think its a fantastic game, and I had plenty of fun with it. I'm more than happy with the time I spent with it. I just find that, for me, the game doesn't hold up well for months and months on end. And that's fine... very few games do. Despite all the ways it drove me crazy, I found D1 to be a game that I could keep finding new and exciting ways to engage with the combat. D2, not so much.

That's totally understandable and I don't fault you for that. I both understand but also kinda don't like the whole preset skill trees. that goes for the new weapon system as well. I myself don't really play Destiny very much at all unless there is new content or there are people I know who want to play.

I guess the point I was making is that there IS diversity there, I guess it's just not diversity to you because of the fun you get out of it. And that's okay. Play for enjoyment, that is all you can and should do.
