It is more a matter of prioritization. The app/site are wide-audience type things. Stats tend to have a more narrow audience, compared to, say, equip/transfer or viewing the list of current "things to do" for your character. One of the reasons the API was created, though, was to ensure that our prioritization choices did not limit our industrious community of developers from making amazing things. We try and expose as much as possible in the Destiny API even if we don't have immediate plans to expose that data in our own UI.
