So, when the taken event comes up on Lost Oasis on Io, I saw a portal. When I went up to it, it said hold X to activate. I ended up in a lost sector that was empty. It said The Whisper and there was a 20 minute timer.

Looking it up, the trigger for the portal may be a VIP, or a VIP in conjunction with the event. There is a small blight in the lost sector that you can destroy. I found it and it opened up a hole to a huge jumping puzzle. That's as far as I have made it.

The award is this exotic sniper rifle.

From what I've read about it:

"Players have discovered that the Taken Blight public event found in Lost Oasis area of Io also spawns a Taken boss. The beast Urzok — a taken version of the Knight from Destiny — will roam around the area. When he’s killed, a portal will spawn, allowing a Fireteam to enter the quest.

Once inside, Guardians will be given an official quest on the side of their screen called “The Whisper.” A 20-minute timer will also appear. When the timer hits zero, all players will be ejected from the quest and will need to wait for the public event to respawn."

Go to Lost Oasis on Io. Wait for the taken blight public event. When it starts, a taken boss will spawn somewhere in the area. Kill that boss and a portal will spawn near the cliffs. Enter the portal and you will spawn in a lost sector. Run through it.
Just past the chest is a ledge up and to the left. Jump up there and kill a small blight. Drop down the hole under it and you will enter a jumping puzzle and then fight. You have 20 minutes to complete all of that.

That was so fun!

by Oholiab @, Friday, July 20, 2018, 23:37 (2394 days ago) @ bluerunner

I spent the first 10 minutes running around the empty sector until I read your post about the ledge. Then I spent the next 10 in the jumping puzzle. Never did make it to the final room. But I loved it! It felt like VoG meets KF. Hope I can get through it some other time.

It's currently been 3 hours since a Taken Blight event.

That's hilarious in the worst way.

I was telling Blue that it was simultaneously genius, and the goodwill-killing douchey Bungie that we know and love (see what I was talking about, fellas? #Kornywasright!).

Genius because it gets people playing, the community is reinvigorated, player numbers and Forsaken buzz starts skyrocketing, and it's all for a weapon that people love, and that will definitely bring folks back.

Douchey because of the arbitrary requisites that players have zero control over, and Bungie does nothing to increase the frequency of it.

So it goes.

--------

Also, the gun has two Ornaments, both of which look great... But they're locked behind Eververse, at $10 each.

I was torn between buying one to support more content and events like this (seriously, stuff like this needs to be more frequent, not tied to marketing for a DLC), since this is definitely a DE-esque move on Bungie's part, and it had way more effort put into it than the Black Spindle mission...
But on the other hand, it's $20 for two skins, showing that Bungie has no intention to slow the Eververse presence in the game, and this is barely the first "organic content" that they've added to the game for players who have paid.

Ultimately I put my money where my mouth was about this stuff and bought the Eris Ornament, because I do think Bungie did a great thing by adding this event, and I hope that they don't just coast off of the goodwill that they've legitimately earned in this one instance.

But seriously... CABAL AGAIN!?

lol

by Avateur @, Sunday, July 22, 2018, 19:11 (2393 days ago) @ Korny

Obviously it’s your money and you can do as you please, but I’d say you absolutely made the wrong choice and Bungie didn’t earn the right to get that money. You’re telling me that thing is worth half or quarter of an expansion of DLC? Nah. Same with the bullshit $10 emote. $10 for an ornament. Nope. That pricing alone is enough to make me not want to buy anything Bungie releases for this game. But they know people will pay it, and you’re part of the problem if you ask me. Bungie has already shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that micro transaction money hasn’t really done much of anything from D1 to now. They’re just laughing all the way to the bank, and it’s pathetic. Total ripoff. But if it makes you happy, have fun!

You’re telling me that thing is worth half or quarter of an expansion of DLC?

Yes. I’d trade Curse of Osiris and Warmind for 2 more missions/quests of the caliber of Whisper of the Worm. Obviously YMMV, but for me this mission is by far the single best piece of content in Destiny 2.

It starts with a cool, hidden trigger to even start the mission (granted, this step can be problematic as Cheapley pointed out).

Then there’s the mission itself; mysterious, enegmatic, thrilling, atmospheric, brutally difficult, utterly satisfying.

The primary reward is an absolutely top-tier weapon that is a blast to use.

There’s the secondary rewards and objectives, all of which reward further exploration and mastery.

And the icing on the cake is that the lore behind this mission is not only awesome in its own right, but it ties back into the mechanics of the quest in a smart and compelling way.

Even the music stands out as being fresh and unique.

For me this quest is Destiny at its absolute best.

Long story short, quality is far more important than quantity. I’d rather pay $10 for content like this every couple months tha $20 for another expansion built around lacklustre missions and a lame story.

lol

by Avateur @, Sunday, July 22, 2018, 20:05 (2393 days ago) @ CruelLEGACEY

But I never commented on the quality of the DLC. They’re charging you $10 for trash micros instead of making the actual content worth the cost? I agree with everything you just said, yet none of it justifies their microtransaction pricing or the content we have received for what they expected us to pay for the actual DLC. It’s all bullshit. And lord knows the microtransaction money didn’t lead to this great content, and buying overpriced whack microtransactions doesn’t mean we’re going to be getting more awesome missions like this one.

Looks like I will have to do this when it opens up again, because surprise. I was busy.

I got invited in to a team that was in the process of trying this, but having technical difficulties. I voluntarily left after one attempt, not because I wasn't leveled enough, but because it was as un-fun as content can be, the way I was doing it. (One person dropped out because of a networking problem. The other had already made it to the fighting spaces. I was left to discover the path on my own, which is normally 100% of the fun... but I was doing it in a party that had already been trying, and I felt like every failed jump was another chain I was hanging around someone's neck.)

I'm TOTALLY OKAY with doing this when it opens up again. Next week, or next month, whatever. It looks like a spectacular gun, but there is zero content in the game that NEEDS that spectacular gun, so not having it for a few weeks will NOT hurt me.

I don't think I'll do it again with people who know what they're doing, but haven't finished it yet - either we're all learning (and failing) together, or nobody cares that I can't jump. That middle ground is the most intensely unenjoyable place I've ever been in Destiny.

"I felt like every failed jump was another chain I was hanging around someone's neck"

I know what you mean. I can relate to that feeling so much in game :(
I deal with it frequently.

ie: Whispers quest
Got in by myself, made it almost to the part where you first run in to enemies (taken thrall if you fall below the main floor) - got through the jumping puzzles fairly easily. Of course I fell a few times (some were on purpose due to explorations I knew would kill me) but generally I got through without much trouble on jumping parts. ..now fast forward to running it with two other people who had been in and made it to the final area(s) but now needed to get there with more time to kill things. So of course I totally fail even the simplest jumps ...over and over. It's the pressure because it's timed and now other people are relying on me (whether they say it or not) to get there and assist with the horde of enemies waiting at the end areas. Each time you fall / fail makes you feel worse, and more pressure to not fail the next attempt but now the worrying has already gotten in your head and ends up messing up your focus and you ending up messing up again and again because of it.

It was the same with a prestige Argos attempt recently. Although we were all learning / failing together ..but after SEVERAL wipes showing I had by far the lowest number of kills (low even for being a 'runner' not a 'defender') EVERY TIME. At that point you just know.. you know the team could make it further, faster, if you weren't on the team. It is not a fun feeling at all. Especially knowing that for some of the team, it took a lot for them to be available to play / Raid. ie time away from family, work or other commitments.

I know I am not a terrible Destiny player. I know that I can actually be very helpful at times, including Raids, under the right circumstances. I feel much less pressure doing an activity once all the others on the team have completed it previously and gotten whatever unique rewards from it.

I don't think I will be signing up for any blind attempts from here on out.
which is fine. I enjoy the game very much without having to have every reward or activity completed the first week it comes out.

I want to add though, that most of the DBOers I have had the pleasure of gaming with have been extremely helpful and patient. Thank you for that :)

This is so cool. More later. Need to try again. A quick note though, the chip-tune like music in the Io-Spindle-Lair is awesome stuff.

:D

Back when "Faction Rally 2.0" was being shown, I lamented about the state of Lost Sectors. What they could be VS What they are currently. I imagined they could be little "mini-raids" that were a high-level activity that were less time demanding and coordination focused. Basically something that existed in-world that was in-between a nightfall and a raid. I bring this up simply because with "Whispers" I have seen basically this, and have loved every bit of it. It is my hope that with "Whispers" we can see Lost Sectors fulfill the promise they once had. To be more then just a farming ground. After all, why were these Sectors lost anyway?

More then that... that this is the beginning of some very cool things in Destiny. A preview of what is to come.

The Music, THE MUSIC, The Atmosphere, There sheer mystery and ethereal oddness of the space, The challenge, The Lore... all of it. Awesome. Just Awesome.

My only quibble is that this was time gated weekend only as suddenly as it began. It's cool and all that... suddenly in an unannounced fashion that we had this sudden event. We had a moments gold rush of activity in this so-called "living" world. Yet the feeling of missing out really sucks. REALLY REALLY sucks. Even if it is coming back... whenever.

And that's my 2¢.

Edit: Fixed "Lore" link. Should work now.
