That is such an incredible piece of music. I can’t hear it without fighting the urge to leap out of my chair with enthusiasm. And Steve Vai, man... I’ve never been much of a “fan” of his music, but there’s no denying his talent when you see a video like this. I don’t mean his technical chops (which are INSANE), but his ability to slip right into the vibe and tone of whatever music he’s hearing, and add to it in a meaningful way WITHOUT stepping all over it. Great musical instincts.

I know! That was the craziest part of this video for me; He starts playing a few improvised riffs with the OG theme in the background, and it sounds EXACTLY like what I remember the final product being- like it was sampled from this video.

I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure portions of that first take actually we’re used in the final mix. There’s a good chance they were recording his guitar the entire time, and stitched together the final “take” using various bits and pieces of the session. So cool to watch it happen :)

This was my sense from the video. I could hear pieces throughout, but that opening from the first take over the intro is exactly as it appears on the track.
