Turns out that you have to carry the sword across to the chest area for it to appear.

I got it done, and the resulting shower of rewards pushed me above 550. :)
You just can't have Sleeper equipped.

Im getting totally owned by the knights and the adds in the 530s... aven failed with two others where one is 550. What do I do wrong?!

I’ve had the best luck by playing “hit and run” with the nights. I’ll take my sword to one of the upper platforms, clear out the enemies there, and wait. Some thrawl will charge up the stairs at me, so I’ll slam them as they approach. Eventually, one of the knights will make their way up as well. I’ll hit them with a heavy slam before they get to swing at me. Then I’ll continue hitting them until they’re able to recover and hit back. As soon as I take any damage from them, I jump away, move to the next platform, and repeat.

This was exactly what I did. Good nostalgic vibes.
At 529, solo, I just ran circles around the central platform edge, slamming large groups of trash and only attacking the knights when my super was full. It fills fast and only takes a few times per knight.
