Killing the Primeval quickly (Destiny)

I haven’t won a gambit match in a while. The reason? We often summon our primeval first, but the other team always seems to just melt theirs away. One second the health is full, the next it is dead. Yes, we are killing the wizards. How are people killing the primeval so quickly?!

Probably stocking up on supers and heavies. Also, 2ndteam has a small catch-up mechanic. They start with some stacks (Bungie says always less than what 1st team currently have, though)

I might be a little upset if I was on the other team :p

I wonder why their damage just completely stopped when they were so close to finishing him off. Did your team have someone invading at the time?

I suspect it was probably because a little shithead goblin made the Primeval immune. I hate those guys.

We did have an invader. He scored a kill right at the beginning of that clip. They were just starting to do damage again right at the end.

I think I see. But I have seen it go down even faster than that. I have literally seen it full health upon entering the portal to invade, and dead before I even get halfway to the team.

It's somewhat disappointing that the winning strategy is just Ikelos / sleeper / supers. When the burn happens that quickly, there's nothing you can do except burn it faster yourself. Even if you fully heal it, it's dead in another 12 seconds before you get another portal.

A better mechanic would have been having to indirectly damage the primeval similar to the way you damage oryx with the light bombs. So strategy and efficiency over raw power.

In that clip, I believe I was the only one using Sleeper or the IKELOS Shotgun. If we’d had multiples, it would have gone down even faster.

Not exactly. Power Ammo and Super energy are both limited resources. And using shotguns isn’t actually that easy, because of the bosses’ stomp attacks (you need to know exactly when to rush in and jump away, and also position yourself so you don’t get bounced into a pit or crushed against a wall).

I’ve had plenty of success by invading in the midst of or just after the enemy team has burned their supers and used a bunch of heavy. I’ll score 3 or 4 kills, heal the Primeval, and leave the enemy to face a full-health boss, only now they don’t have their supers and half their heavy ammo is gone.

Even when things don’t go that well, I’ve managed to drive the enemy team into hiding while I chase them around. That’s 30 seconds that they aren’t shooting their Primeval or invading, while my team has free reign to work on our Primeval.

The bottom line is that Gambit is the most pro mlg competitive mode in Destiny right now, and that is not only cool but surprising.

Maybe Trails should be Gambit :-p

I've heard of a few strategies. The good ol' Melting Point/EP shotgun is still popular. I've heard the new Solar Titan super is really good for it as well. Don't forget the new Void Hunter super has a weakening component if you cast it during Truesight. That's really not to be underestimated. I've seen Whisper/Sleeper, obviously. Personally I double-stack Heavy Ammo Finder and carry a Crooked Fang most times.

But my absolute favorite strat I've heard about is having everyone carry a Fighting Lion, and having a Warlock with Lunafaction and Well of Radiance. I've yet to try it myself, but I can't wait. Bonuses to direct hits, auto reloads. Sounds like a good time.

If you use it with Knife Barrage, or whatever that super is called, it does tremendous damage depending on what kind of stacks you have going for you. We like to start at 5 at least.
