Shattered Throne: Quick Boss Kill [video] (Destiny)
A few weeks back, several of us were discussing the Shattered Throne final boss, and how to get through the fight quickly.
At the time, I didn’t have a saved video of my fastest completion, which I’d estimated was somewhere in the 30-40 seconds range.
Last night I joined Robot Chickens and Rellekh about half way through the Dungeon, and played through to the end with them. It was their first time through. They were in the 590s and 570s power levels, respectively (if I remember correctly). I was 600. II gave them a real brief overview of the final boss before we jumped in. I basically said “kill the knights as close together as possible, then burn the boss”.
This was our very first attempt:

Not as fast as my previous completion, but it’s a good illustration of a basic strategy to get through the fight quickly. The tethers were crucial, because they trivialized most of the ads in the room. Chickens was wearing Orpheus Rigs, so hitting the 3 Knights with 1 tether would instantly refill his super. Plus all the orbs gave me multiple supers. A hammer Titan w/ shoulder charge, or a Celestial Nighthawk Hunter would in place of my stormcaller could have sped things up significantly.
Hope this helps anyone who is struggling with that encounter :)

Cool. I mean, as I said before, not nearly as "innovative" as our team sacrificing ourselves in turn to avoid the team wipe mechanic, but... oh fine... yes... it's nice to see how it was supposed to be done. :p
Thanks for the video. :)

Wait. There’s a team wiping mechanic? When does that kick in? Cruel didn’t even warn us about that.

Pffff, that’s cause I knew we’d crush it first try ;p
Actual answer: Remember when I said I didn’t even really understand the mechanics of the encounter? Yeah... lol

You crushed it, he was right, no worries.
You know that table in the middle of the room? It glows, once the fight starts? That's a cleansing table.
If you pick up the balls, but DON'T kill her before the time runs out, you will die... unless you get on that table. That will clear the buff (and keep you from dying when it expires).
That glow disappears once you destroy the first crystal. (You crushed it, so you never saw the crystals... but if you don't kill the knights fast enough, they become immune, and when this happens, a giant crystal spawns behind the boss. In order to remove their immunity and do more damage to the knights, you need to destroy the crystal, which has 3 effects: the knights' immunity vanishes, the table stops glowing (so you can't remove the buff a second time), and the psions spawn again.
Since everyone gets the buff at the same time, the only way to avoid a team wipe, if you fail to kill her in the SECOND round, is for one team member to die (and be revived) before the timer runs out. Death, also, clears the buff (and the timer). ;)
So if you're doing it right, you never see any of this stuff... because all 3 knights go down together, your team gets a 3x buff, the boss gets wiped out with 8 whisper shots (or the equivalent). But if you're NOT doing it right, it gets harder and harder to kill her.

Ahh, thanks for the explanation.

Nicely done! The "quick kill" strategy I've used is a little different, but seems to work pretty well. It requires a Nightstalker with Orpheus Rig, and benefits from a Warlock with Well of Radiance and Lunafaction boots or a Titan with a rally Barricade. All 3 guardians need the Escalation Protocol Shotgun.
- Start the encounter by firing the tether just to the left or right of the center knight (hitting him directly seems to cause them to sometimes teleport).
- Each guardian runs up to a knight, hits with melee, then backs up and empties their shotgun to kill their Knight quickly.
- Fire another tether in the center of the room to catch the psions, and kill them too.
- Pick up the 3 orbs dropped by the knights.
- Fall back to the spawn point and drop the Well of Radiance and/or rally barricade. Empty your heavy weapons into the boss (Whisper preferred) to kill her quickly.
The EP Shotgun kills of the knights need to be quick so they don't teleport, and of course it's much easier if no one dies :). If there is a death, make sure all three knights are dead and don't pick up the orbs until after you get the revive and the psions are dead.
