THAB 2.21.19--Gambit and Shotgun changes, One Eyed Mask nerf (Destiny)

by cheapLEY @, Thursday, February 21, 2019, 15:47 (2171 days ago)

The new Weekly Update is live.

Scourge of the Past Raid Along
Date: Tuesday, February 26
Time: 10 AM–12 PM PST

Gambit changes coming with season of The Drifter on March 5.

-The third round of Gambit matches are being changed to a Primeval rush sudden death. Goal is to make matches shorter. (Gonna be some long Primeval fights, after everyone burns supers and Heavy to melt them in round 2. I predict lots of people purposely losing round 2 instead of pushing for a come-back in order to have Super and Heavy for round 3.)
-Increasing the number of invader spawn points and changing how those spawns are picked when someone invades
-Idle protection means AFKers will not see end of game Infamy points.
-"Light vs. Light" Triumph change to require killing any Guardian in their super, not just invaders
-New blockers:

  • Small Blocker = Taken Goblin with less health than the previous Phalanx.
  • Medium Blocker = Taken Captain with more health than the previous Knight.
  • Large Blocker = Taken Knight with more health than the previous Ogre.

Triple Infamy
Start: 2/26/2019, 9 AM PST
End: 3/5/2019

Sandbox changes:

I'll just summarize here, click through to the update for specifics

-Aim assist on Linear Fusion Rifles is lowered. 10% damage increase in PvE to compensate.
-Shotgun range reduction in Crucible (no specific values mentioned)
-Shotguns in PvE will get a damage multiplier, "effectively doubling their damage." Again no specifics
-Full-Auto rate of fire bonus is now +10% instead of +100%
-Default rate of fire for every shotgun type has been adjusted
-Ammo reserves have been adjusted because of increased damage

One Eyed Mask changes:

-Mark of Vengeance is now 8 seconds instead of 15
-Health will no regen over time along with shields, instead of instantly.
-Vengeance no longer triggers for players in Super

They also changed the shader preview view on Hunter cloaks, so you can now see the whole cloak:

(Highlight mine).

Is it just me, or does this sound like the kind of change that might nerf IKELOS SG and Threat Level into the ground?

Excited to try the new Gambit changes!

I honestly assumed that was the exact purpose of the change. I'm actually okay with it--using any other shotgun is purposely handicapping yourself.

Excited to try the new Gambit changes!

Me too. I'm excited to see more info what actually changes for the rest of the season. There's gotta be a Drifter/Gambit vendor/item refresh, right? New Gambit armor and weapons? Please?

It’s all going to come down to how the RoF nerf and the damage buff balance out.

Right now, IKELOS and Threat Level are not really overpowered. They’re just 2 of the only shotguns powerful enough in PvE to justify the risk of getting close enough to an enemy to use a shotgun. Perfect Paradox and now Acreus are probably the only other shotguns that I’d put vaguely on the same level (again, I’m talking PvE here).

My concern is that IKELOS and Threat Level are in a great place right now. They’re the “go to” PvE shotguns because they’re effective and fun to use. I’m all for bringing other shotguns up to their general level. I just hope these changes don’t suck the life out of some of the most fun and iconic weapons in Destiny.

Excited to try the new Gambit changes!

I sure hope so.

There will no longer be wider pellet spread with Full Auto on shotguns, and the RoF nerf is, by the way it reads, an overall DPS buff on the Rapid-Fire archetype. (30% decrease in RoF with a “100%” increase in PvE damage is something like a 40% overall buff) but without details on how much their ammo and base damages have changed it’s hard to assess. I think they will still be the dominant PvE choice, but I think other Shotguns will hold more reason to be used (because every enemy that used to take 2 shots from w/e archetype should now only take one.

That all makes sense. Fingers crossed :)

Queenbreaker Bugged

by squidnh3, Friday, February 22, 2019, 04:08 (2170 days ago) @ cheapLEY

So, according to the full update text, Queenbreaker has had twice the aim assist it's supposed to for quite some time. That's being fixed with the overall linear fusion adjustment. RIP blindfolded headshots.
