What is Power? What is PvP? What is Destiny?

I alluded to some of this when we were Looking Back. The game continuing to grow forever isn’t something we can support. Destiny’s simulation, fidelity, and architecture fundamentally make it a big game. I’ve seen a lot of “game X does it, why can’t Destiny?” but the referenced games and ours have very different technical profiles.

Shots fired Korny! (At the very least.)

people generally tend to focus on their own experience in their feedback.

Which is a fancy way of saying people speak what they know or are aware of. A lead of a games knows more about the workings than some 15 year old dreaming of "makeing t3h video games". Or just like you, my fellow DBO regulars, know what is coming next now that we have these whole thoughts on the page. ;D

I will also say, I look forward to reading your thoughts, my fellow Doobers (:P) on the PVP changes outlined thus far, at least. Interesting stuff!

Roaming supers are being adjusted (no real specifics mentioned). Luke specifically calls out that supers should have to be more thoughtfully deployed and should be able to be challenged. Less super energy gained from orbs, kills, and assists.

Major Crucible changes. Competitive is gone, replaced by 3v3 Survival. Two playlists, one specifically for solo queues. 6v6 Control is a permanent playlist, while a new Classic playlist will have Clash, Supremacy, and Control.

Twilight Gap and Widow’s Court are returning.

Heavy Ammo spawns are being reworked. They are now back to communal pickups, but the opposing team has a limited window to snag some Heavy even if they didn’t get there first.

Luke says that Trials of the Nine (emphasis his) has been put on indefinite hiatus. Combined with the news that they are currently working on 4 versions of 3v3 Elimination that will be tested in Crucible Labs strongly hints that Trials of Osiris is back in the table, eventually.

I can’t believe it, but I think I’m more excited about the PvP stuff than the PvE right now. This all sounds fantastic.

I read that as your teammates will have a limited window to pick up their ammo once the box has been opened.

Yep, I think you’re right.

It’s not exactly the same as D1 though—when a player cracks open the Heavy crate, other players have a window of time to interact with it to get their Heavy ammo.

I read “other players” as “other team” for some reason the first time.

Your original interpretation might make the heavy spawn pretty interesting, though. Fight to be able to open the heavy crate, then try to hold the area to prevent the opposing team from getting any :)

I really like this idea. I hope it stays. I'm pretty excited for all these PvP changes. As long as they don't go changing Heavy spawns/chance to drop in Gambit, I'm good.

Really hoping we get some regular Crucible nights going again.

"So why have we been so quiet about PvP? Well, we didn’t have a lot to say. We weren’t actively developing something to hype up. We knew PvP was going to be something everyone got for free in New Light, so it wasn’t really a part of the Shadowkeep core offering."

Remember back when they cancelled TotN indefinitely, but promised that they had folks actively working on the "future evolutions" of PvP? Now he admits that they really didn't have anything over the past year+. It's okay though, I haven't fooled myself into thinking Bungie folks are honest people for a long time, but it's nice to see them owning up to it more now than before.

Still, all these changes sound great, and hopefully they can bring more D1 maps forward (still hoping for Sector 618, Memento, and Asylum).

Uh... is what we are seeing them post today not the "future evolutions" of PvP (a quote I'm not even able to find, source?)? Your interpretation of lying seems to be that it's different than what you thought they meant. Something to hype is referring to a new Crucible mode or pinnacle activity, that doesn't mean they didn't have people working on the future of the Crucible.

They said that like nearly a year ago, too. They could have been actively working on something and then priorities shifted. They should communicate that if it’s the case, though. As it is we have no way of knowing. I hope this thing from Luke isn’t a one off thing until they need to do it again because the community thinks they totally fucked up again. Hopefully being their own publisher does mean they will be a bit more open amour the state of the game, their goals, future plans, etc.

Yeah totally agree, they have been terrible on communication for Crucible stuff, I hope we get a little more often even if it's without immediate action, just saying "hey we know about X and we are (still) looking into it."

Sure they lied for over a year, Korny, but in a couple of months, what they said will turn out to be true! There WILL be some Crucible content added to the game, just like they said there would be!

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward (with justifiably tempered expectations) to what the first big non-Activision-blameable expansion looks like. And yeah, the PvP-focused content that we've been lacking for the past year and a half sounds like it's headed towards a better place.
But communication is something that Bungie has always sucked at, no matter how many "this is just the beginning" streams they cobble together right around Marketing Hype Time for their next expansion. These word vomits are a good step towards the DEstiny era that a lot of us have hoped for, and they are immediately more informative than any of the godawful THABs that Bungie gives their anti-social community managers, but I don't think it's wrong to point out that their lack of communication after they make promises still makes them liars when the promises go unfulfilled for ages...

Like I said, it's a good thing that they're owning up to these issues. Hopefully that means They're Listening, and we're actually moving towards a more honest and open future this time.

You know... I almost pitty your posts of this particular thread here. I don't think you realize what your words say. I don't think you've given that self-reflection, and now it's too late. It's fascinating. Among all the suring up you attempted, somehow you managed to use more words and STILL say nothing at all. I mean… at least Cody actually SAYS something. If you’re going to reply in bad faith, about how Bungie (and I’m quoting something I read today) “might as well be evil robots or trained murder pigeons or whatever”, wringing their hands among precariously well timed lighting bolts, curling around their fingers dastardly mustaches, then at the very least, please, draw us a picture. If you’re not going to contribute to discussion than at the very least you can be entertaining. Otherwise, why the hell are you here?

I mean, shit, Bungie has certainly earned their moments of ire in their trial and error methods, I’ve certainly written those posts. SO hey, let’s pretend this ridiculous sieve of premise could even hold the egg-yoke slime you’ve provided.

Why in the fuck are you supporting them!?! EH! If they are out to get us, and to straight up lie to our faces, if anyone even remotely believes that, why the fuck are *we* supporting them?! WHY THE FUCK are we still Bungie fans? Why the fuck are you still a Bungie fan Korny?! I restate again, if you even slightly believe your own bile, why the hell are you here? What a great foolishness that would be! And to think... you came here to tell us the you knew they were going to lie?!? (“I haven't fooled myself into thinking Bungie folks are honest people for a long time.“) Well holy fucking shit lets stop the presses, Korny is actually Batman! What. A. Fucking. Joke. It moots everything else you say. You have NO RESPONSE, as your actions speak for you.

It doesn’t hold up, and once again Korny among your pretend of wit, you’ve proven to be the moments fool. Next time you post, check yourself before you wreck yourself. Your post is bullshit-on-fire, and I’ve said my piece.

Oh… and if I was a Mod, I'd ban ya for a week for trollish behavior (or perhaps inadvertently of a lack of reading comprehension). I expect better posts at DBO. Discontent is fine, heck a little heat can be fun between cold spells, but lets keep the baseless salt shit for elsewhere.

I never said that Bungie is conniving/evil. Those things would require competence and a strong leadership and group focus.
Bungie's actions are a result of ineptitude and an apparent mismanagement, which can be blamed on having multiple studios working on disparate pieces of content (which Luke outright admitted on the first DC, so me wins), a lack of internal communication and cooperative iteration (which he also openly admitted), and horrible community management and communication (how about that Twitch studio they promise to use every three months?).

Why in the fuck are you supporting them!?!

I have fun playing their game, and know they can do better?

Let's look at another studio that lied to their community, Respawn.
Back when Apex launched, they promised that they wouldn't have scummy monetization, and for the game's first six months, that's held true. But they released a new event this week that had the worst monetization in recent memory. Even worse than Battlefront 2!
And what happened? They admitted, in their own words, that they broke their promise. They owned up to it, and are immediately working to fix their mistake. And it's not just a press release (which is more open and honest than simply saying "We're Listening" like some other studio loves doing), as you clearly know (since you quoted them), their community folks are on the subreddit explaining the situation from their end, which is far more than the crickets we hear from Bungie's multiple community "managers".

It's almost like being honest to your community is not as hard as you think it is...

I don't know. I don't think that being a bootlicker is required to enjoy/play a company's game, so maybe that's where we differ on perspective (though it has helped me understand the perspective of a few folks in the community).

But I know I've been spoiled rotten by our lord and savior Digital Extremes, who excel at competence and communication, so maybe I am a little harsher than I should be at times.
I'm Listening, and I'll work on doing better.

I've not looked much into it, as I don't really play Apex, but to what I've seen how they are behaving to their fans is ALSO bullshit.

When I do post my bunch-oh-thoughts with the Directors cut, it's going to appear like I'm commenting on recent events when I'm not. I started the very beginning of my thoughts back when the first Directors Cut dropped, which was before I knew about all this nonsense happening in the Apex Community. It's... geeze. This nonsense has been going on for far too long.
