Advice for a filthy casual. (Destiny)

I've not had time to play any of the new content, but I might have a few hours tonight. Any plan of attack for week one?

Follow the core quest line. I wouldn’t worry about anything else.

If Osiris doesn't seem to have a quest for you, back out and talk to him again. There's a common bug where his quests don't repopulate.

Just do the story stuff. It's easy to solo, not very long (before the repetitive grind kicks in, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case, since it's guaranteed loot), and the one "challenging" bit has matchmaking and is fail-proof.

There's almost nothing else new content-wise, so it shouldn't take too long to be caught up and back into the "rituals".

The Auto Rifle is great, go for that first, then pick up the grenade launcher bounties. The GL has a somewhat unique projectile that poops a line of damage forward. Might be useful in PvE!

The Obelisks and their objectives are the reason I quit playing this season already. Sorry, Bungie, I don’t want to do 9 Patrols, kill 25 Fallen Captains and get however many Sniper Rifle precision kills. It feels entirely like busywork without anything new to make it feels even somewhat fresh.

I’m genuinely not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, this just isn’t enough to keep me interested. I’ll check out that Dawning, but I don’t need Destiny busywork in my life right now.

I'm not sure you actually need to do those bounties. They are a source of [insert currency name here] but you also seem to get that passively doing most other things. Actually if you level up the second slot, it increases your chance of currency drops from both Crucible or Gambit.

Of course, the rewards for these things seem to mostly be more drops, so if you don't want that then it doesn't matter much.

I was trying to do the actual quest line, but I’m at a point where I needed to get 3 of the weapons. I didn’t have any of that currency left (because I was upgrading the Obelisk because it seems like that’s what you were supposed to do). Those bounties seemed like the easiest way to get that currency, I got halfway through 9 patrols and decided I’d rather be doing literally anything else so I stopped.

Again, not trying to just be a downer. This season just isn’t doing it for me. I did the Sundial twice and felt like I honestly never needed to do it again. It’s just not that interesting.

Which is all totally fine. I’ll check back in when something interesting happens and go catch up on my huge backlog of games in the meantime.

3x Guns is only 30 currency

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, 13:10 (1807 days ago) @ cheapLEY

That's one bounty. The "Collect 30 Resources" bounty can die in a fire, but I got 2 of the others done without even trying.

I also got 200 from doing 3 strikes, and another chunk from general triumphs (including the "get some exp this season I guess" one). You also also get some for Sundial completion.

Tl;Dr If you don't dig the bounties dont do them, do whatever you'd normally do. You'll get enough currency soon enough.

The bounties for the guns themselves are kind of obnoxious though.

I was doing the quest line, did one run of sundial but now I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. There isn't anything in my quest boxes.

There is getting to be too much stuff going on for me to keep up with. Once again, I got my power level maxed the week before the new season, and got it looking how I wanted. Then light level goes back up and I'm back to being a garbage monster wearing blue armor or whatever else is highest light.

I'm back to being tired of Destiny. I just have no idea what's going on or what to do.

Go back to Osiris in his weird pointless instance. He should have more quests for you.

I'm super glad I didn't put much effort into my armour and such last season though. I won't this season either. Seems like the seasons are better suited to a tourist like me than dedicated players.

Why not run the armor you like and just keep the Rares in your inventory until you are ready to infuse?

Probably because he doesn't know that's a viable option; the only way to know that is to keep up on the weekly updates. There's nothing in-game that suggests that if you got used to how it worked BEFORE, you might want to try something different.

They really could use some better UX stuff. :(

That’s totally fair. I was pretty sure that it had been that way for basically the whole of Destiny 2, though, right? I might be misremembering. I know this isn’t the first season I’ve done that for leveling.

lol - don't do that in Crucible; there's no value to those numbers (except in Iron Banner). You might as well use the stuff that works best for you.

I totally get that feeling. The ironic part is that there isn’t actually much going on this season so far. You get the sundial up and running, and activate the Obelisks that link to it (2 of them last week, and I’m presuming another 2 this week). In conjunction with this, there’s a little weekly story-progression mission for Osiris involving Saint 14 (similar to the weekly Eris memory missions last season). Last season, we had a new campaign, the Eris missions, Vex Offensive, a whole new location to explore, Nightmare hunts, Vex invasions, a new raid, new dungeon, a huge power climb, ritual weapon quests that took way longer than this seasons’ RW quests... So far, this season is actually paper thin when you break it down.

The problem, I think, is that unlocking the Obelisks, the bounties they provide, and the weekly quest steps for Osiris are a giant fucking list of annoying busy work. My weekly checklist right now is mostly stuff like “90 grenade launcher kills, 45 sniper rifle headshot kills, defeat 50 Fallen with Finishing moves, kill enemies with Solar weapons, collect 30 planetary materials on Mars...” etc, etc. It’s the absolute most mundane and boring crap they could possibly throw together.

The sad part is that the actual story stuff happening with Saint 14 is cool so far, once you finally get to it. But I’m not sure how many people will dig through all the tedium to get to it. I gave up 2 weeks into the Drifter’s stuff involving the Nine, and that wasn’t nearly as mind-numbing as this stuff :-/

It gets a little better: you and your friends can have different Obelisks linked, so you are actively discouraged from playing with friends who aren't linked with your planets.
And if you have the same Obelisks linked, you might have different destination quests, so you're further tasked with splitting up (I joined Nevin earlier, who clearly had the "Complete 9 Lost Sectors" Mars bounty, while I had "Kill 100 Cabal on Mars". We never saw each other.) And that's before you even get to the weapon bounties, such as my "Kill 150 Hive with precision damage", which would have sucked if Nevin was around stealing my precision kills. Most bounties have you better off running solo, which is how I've seen most people running this past week.

This is all exactly what I love doing in Destiny. This season was made for me!! I just wish I knew how to get it all started. I'll hopefully get some time tonight to log in.
