Once after swapping the CMOS. The real issue is once Sony shuts down those servers. If the CMOS dies after the servers are gone, there is no legit way to restore functionality.

This is what's inexcusable. Digital… well you know what you signed up for. But physical?!

If I have a disc, I should be able to play it on the system until the end of time, or until the physical objects break down.

What you sign up for, both with digital and physical, is a license. It's the reason why stupid things like this affect physical games also.

At the end of the day, what you get with your disk is the ability to move that license around.
