Mod swapping is going to be free soon (Destiny)

Kicking off our list of QOL updates (otherwise known as Quality of Life), the team has been working on a change that many of you have been asking about for a while. Have you ever been tinkering with your armor mods and thinking, “Well, this is taking quite a bit of Glimmer” or even running out in the process? Well, starting on December 7, this will no longer be an issue.
Starting next week, you can swap out your armor mods instantaneously, at any time, with no Glimmer or currency required. The goal of the team is to better enable build crafting on the fly, whether you be loading into a PvP match or prepping for a Nightfall.
We’ve also seized this opportunity to make “free and reversible” socket actions available to all 3rd party Destiny 2 apps starting on December 7. So, in addition to equipping gear and transferring items to/from the Vault, your favorite D2 apps will be able to apply Armor 2.0 mods, weapon perks, shaders, ornaments, and ghost projections on your behalf.
While this may not be a solution to every build craft feedback item, it is a step forward as the team looks to dialing in build crafting and loadout opportunities for Destiny 2 in the future. The team will also be looking at Artifact mod resets and costs in the future, but general armor mod swapping is a great first step.
As we said earlier, this enables third party community apps to change mods at the tap of a finger on your phone screen, or the click of a mouse on browsers. We’re excited for how our community will take advantage of this, as it could open the door to potential loadouts for things like Nightfalls or PvP modes.
Amazing
You were right Insane, what a pleasant surprise.
There goes my productivity at work though.

It's gonna take me a little time to organize things... but then I can delete a WHOLE LOT of armor (since I can use DIM to swap mods, I can drop down from 3 sets of crucible armor to one set, etc).
YAAY!
Amazing
I just recently started saving loadouts in DIM. This was my biggest gripe, and they reason I haven't tried experimenting with mods. I'm glad this is happening.
Now if they could just make it able to switch loadouts via DIM during activities that don't have equipment locks.
Amazing

Well, the text reads "you can swap out your armor mods instantaneously, at any time" - they might say "well, we assumed you understood it has the same swapping limits as armor itself", but then again, they might not.
Amazing
I would love to not tie up my arm slots with champion mods. If I could just tap to land them when I encountered a champion, then go back to other mods when it is dead, that would be great.
Or they could just move the mods to the guns or just be an always on artifact unlock.
Well, the biggest plus on all this for me is that it may reduce the number of times I load into a legendary lost sector and then realize I forgot to put the mods on.
Amazing
lol. The mods started out being equipped to the guns and people bitched because they couldn’t use their gun mods.

Thanks, but... you wanna run that by me again? If there was a disagreement somewhere, I would like to know about it. Don't point if you don't speak up, yeah? Then again, credit where credit is due. The idea where the ability to organize is a good thing is 'nither new nor revolutionary. And sometimes it's lemon scented!
There goes my productivity at work though.
When a building falls, I'll think of you. ;D

See ya on Dec 7th. https://t.co/P0FqqOMhAK
Exciting news in today's TWAB that Bungie API will support moving mods around. Here's tentative plans for how D2Checklist will leverage that in the coming weeks: https://t.co/MsV9yaXJlb

So yeah. This is good. And I'm happy these and other third party app devs are being recognized. It is well earned. But hey, pending what DIM and others have in store, call me when we see some of the things you can do only in DIM, such as tagging, be implemented into Destiny. If that happens, then there may indeed be change I'll sing about. Or would it be scream hysterically? Honestly, it's kinda true either way. :P
Amazing
I'm going to lose a lot of time crafting builds for each activity in DIM ...
+7
There's a non-insignificant chance I'll spend more time on DIM than the actual game this first week

Looks like this is already fully implemented on DIM (although we'll have to see how the performance holds up as the population gets going with it). Get modding!

I'm still seeing the message in the app that says DIM can not equip mods. Haven't tested it.

I think that might be left over from the previous version of the app. I applied a mod to something, and then checked in the official Destiny app, and there it was.

Yup, just tried that too. It works!
I've got a lot of experimenting I want to do to see how swapping mods will work. Things like creating loadouts that are just mods and seeing what happens if I try to load a mod with an element affinity to armor with a different element.
Edit- Well, it looks like applying a loadout with mods removes any other mods that were on your armor. I tried setting up one loadout with weapon specific mods and loading it, then another with charged with light specific mods and loaded it. It removed the weapon mods and added the charged with light mods. It didn't load the mods that it couldn't find an affinity for.
