Lost sectors make me sad, sometimes. (Destiny)
So I have a crappy roll on the new Warlock exotic boots (Secant Filaments), and today's Lost Sector is legs (even though the image says helmet). Braytech says 16.02% of users have gotten the boots I want, and 27.40% have gotten Boots of the Assembler (wouldn't mind another shot at those, too). Generally accepted stats for Legend/Master are roughly 20% drop rate for Legend, 33% or so for Master. I can do a few, right?
11 Legends, 4 Masters. 0 exotics.
I give up. (At least for the day.)

That’s what happened to me almost every time I tried to do one. There are a bunch of those lost sector exotics I never got. ):
I liked the process of learning a lost sector and repeating it and getting it down, but then doing it ten or eleven times to get nothing was so demoralizing I just stopped doing it.

I put a personal max of like 5-6 times on doing these. There'll be another day.

I genuinely think they’re fun. If they actually had reliable drops, i would spend a whole day farming rolls. If I averaged one exotic every five drops or so, I’d love it. But I’ve done ten in a row repeatedly with no drops.

Yeah, it's pretty demoralizing (even though I fully agree with you - figuring out the fight, and then optimizing it, is pretty satisfying in itself).
I think Squid's rule is a good one, I'll stick to it from here on in. I've heard people (including you! :) ) talking about having to run one 10+ times, and I thought well, I guess my luck is better than that, that's never happened to me.
Until now.

I went to a Penn and Teller show last year in Vegas. The quote from the show that stuck with me was "Luck is just probability taken personally."
Writing that down.
