A few things DIM's good for (Destiny)

• Saved loadouts
  
• Search box (spend a little time looking at query possibilities--you can find dupes, find items with a certain element--there are innumerable uses. And then you can move your search results to a character through the character drop-down menu.)
  
• Comparisons--you can compare dupes or any other items that fill a slot.
  
• Tagging items, locking items. You can do this for multiple items at once, e.g., results from a search. Good for gear management and organization.
  
• On the progress page you can pick weapons and move weapons based on the bounties you're working on.

Those are the common things I use it for and I'm sure I'm strictly an amateur.
