Not really anything we haven’t already been told, so this one is clearly just for last-minute marketing. I thought it was funny how people have complained that the Hunter and Titan supers were too similar to existing Supers, and Bungie pitches the Hunter Super with almost the exact words that they would use for Arc Staff before saying “it’s nothing that we’ve ever seen before in Destiny”. Like, guys… we have eyes.
Anyway, it’s a pretty ViDoc… And Devrim transmatting !? Is that the first time we’ve ever seen a normal dude transmatting? From what I recall, all humans are just at places when we’ve seen them in-world.

I have fond memories of the EGG911 cheat in Gauntlet Legends that made me a... well, legend in my local arcade for a time. I could carry teams from beginning to end on a single Credit with my level 99 chicken. When people got low on health, the chicken was there to tank and attack. People asked how I could play as a fireball blasting chicken permanently (since it was otherwise a timed powerup), but I never revealed my secret. Great memories.

That's a relief. I was wondering if the stakes were going to be lower in this release. I'm glad they confirmed they won't be.

This season, the threat is Zavala’s forgetfulness. Solve the mystery of where he lost his shield, as you scour the city for clues. The raid will take place in the flea market as you race to retrieve it before it is sold and lost forever.

Dave Samuel made sound effects with his mouth.
In all seriousness, I'm in. I'm on record as loving Bungie's futuristic aesthetic, and Neomuna seems like an open sky Arcology, which suits me just fine.
Ping me if you're interested in a blind raid. We have some open seats.

This^.
Maybe include people with things of substance to say, and have fewer of them. Devs used to get enough screen time such that you got an inkling of their personalities.
I'm sure that internally, it's a mark of pride of get a spot in a vidoc, but it felt like watching a compilation of YouTubers' reactions to a sneak peek.

I just don't feel any connection with anyone there like I felt with the Bungie of the old days. It's nothing against the people in the vidoc, it's just that all I hear is marketing pitches from them. I guess it's because they've long outgrown the lil' ol' Bungie small studio feel.
It's like, I used to hang out at a hole in the wall hot chicken joint here in Nashville. Then suddenly it got popular amd you started seeing these abominations of imitation hot chicken everywhere (looking at you, KFC). Then my lil' ol' chicken joint closed down and moved to a nicer part of town and built something that is like all the big restaurant chains. The chicken is still good, but it just doesn't feel the same. There's no soul. No connection with the new staff and cooks. It's commercial and not small shared experience for us locals and people in the know.
That's what these vidocs remind me of.

That Bungie died ages ago.
The new Bungie will let you skip the big new campaign on your other characters for $20 a pop. Seriously, what a bunch of assholes. They aren't the cool small passionate studio anymore--they're the faceless corporation that will monetize the living hell out of every tiny aspect of the thing they make.
That isn't to say there isn't passion or that they don't make great things, but the old Bungie has been gone for a long time.

No, they are alive. But just like Harvey Dent, they lived long enough to become the villain.

"Pay us money to not play the campaign" is not something that I am a fan of either. Once I am done, I want to check out other things and running it again with my alts just to access stuff seems like a chore. It rubs me wrong for them to ask for money to skip what I already paid for.
I have been just doing the seasons on one character. I can only do the "play 3 season activities and listen to an audio clip of Osiris doing 30 second dramatic pauses between sentences" quest once a week. I wish the seasonal quest carried between characters. There really hasn't been anything interesting enough to do back to back to back.

The TWAB. They don’t state a price, but previous character boosts have been $20, so it’s an educated guess.

Let's not forget additional aspects of the old Bungie:
1. Months-long horrifying death march crunches
2. Poor mental health support
3. Alleged harassment issues
If slightly less raw Vidocs and $20 campaign skips that can easily be totally ignored is the price to pay for addressing those issues, okay then.

Honestly… I think it will only make those things worse.
The general sense I get is that the live service game model makes a lot of money, but is very stressful on the developers. One of the biggest live service games - Fortnite, is just brutal on the folks making it, as many of them have attested. It makes sense right? You have to constantly push out new stuff, in a timely manner, while dealing with a voraciously hungry community who is also complaining for you to fix shit and give them more stuff. There's pressure to keep your playerbase playing YOUR game, both for optics and for the sales of the things that actually make you money now that he game is free to play. So, you have to push and crunch and burn people out.
So buying the skip and liking the Vidocs is really only encouraging them to continue on this route, since those are a product of the live service shift.

It's possible I'm wrong, but the sense I get is that the way Bungie is managing live service Destiny is the envy of the industry, in the sense that many other studios are trying to make live service games and they are constantly failing. Isn't that pretty much the established reason why Sony bought them?
To me, the proof is in their communication about the seasonal model. Last season people abruptly got bored of the "fill in the squares" progression of each season, and Bungie has been like, "okay we hear you, but just so you know the next 2 seasons are going to be pretty much the same because we are already committed to them being like that." In order for them to do this live service seasonal model, they are planning way in advance and having organized teams work on various content for the future. To me, that's exactly what you would have to do in order to have people work reasonable hours. Disorganized, knee-jerk development is how you get crunch, and that's not what Bungie is doing any more (excepting emergency bugs), and I think they've been doing a reasonable job of communicating that over the past year.

I would like to know more too. I know Des2ny is far from the most profitable live service game, but in terms of sustainability I wonder where they are?

If charging $20 for the ability to skip the campaign is the difference between crunch and no crunch, then I’ll eat my fucking shoes. Sure, it’s ignorable. I’d love the ability to skip the campaign on alternate characters (or skip the Stasis grind, jesus), but asking $20 for the privilege is fucking insulting.

I still haven't finished Witch Queen on my Warlock (actually I don't think I've done any of the main expansion campaigns on my Titan, just enough to unlock the patrol zones). However, I'm pretty sure I have Stasis completely unlocked on my Titan, didn't they make that way easier at some point already?

The fragments are universal unlocks, so that’s not bad. The aspects still suck, though. I’m not sure it’s ever changed, as it still was a slog this season when I finally finished unlocking it all on my Warlock.
The WQ campaign is what makes this decision infuriating. Unlocking the Patrol isn’t enough. You have to get a decent chunk through the campaign to even do Wellspring, and get all the way through to have all the upgrades unlocked to be able to do everything on alternate characters. It’s like it’s intentionally designed to be annoying enough to get people to pay $20. It fucking sucks. It’s not surprising in the least because the bar is basically on the floor when it comes to respecting people’s time, but that just makes it worse.

Ah okay I was thinking of the aspects. Maybe I speedran through the Titan Aspect part, or used it to get Stasis kills for some other quest (very useful for Stasis super kills if I remember!).
Ah yeah I find Wellspring extremely boring, I guess that's why I didn't bother (still don't have any of the glaves). It is kind of funny though, most people said Witch Queen's Legendary Campaign was great and fun, but I guess it's one of those Destiny things where once you have all this other stuff you need to do for rewards/loot, you don't want to actually go back and do anything for fun. I've been thinking about finishing the campaign on my Warlock in preparation for Lightfall...but I also kind of feel the pull to play hours of Gambit to check some boxes...weird.

It anti-worked for me. It guaranteed that I won’t be buying Lightfall (the first time I don’t get an expansion in Destiny’s entire run).
There’s enough D2 content staying in the game that will keep me satisfied for a good while, but these annoying “devs explain to each other the content in the game they are both working on” videos are just blatant manipulative ads condensing all of the already-released marketing content, not ViDocs.
Contrary to what Garfield says, I am immune to propaganda. :P

When I was very young, a family member would make "puppets" with their hands and act out different scenarios and commentary that would make me laugh and laugh and laugh. My sides would hurt just from all the giggling, a child's laughter. And... as a result of all the glee, its a solid memory I have.
A few years would pass, nothing too long, but a few. And one day I asked this family member "remember when you did" such and such, and could you do it again?
"Well, you're a bit older now. I'm not sure if..."
"Please."
"Alright."
To their credit, they pulled no punches, and did as I requested. And while I did find myself smiling at the antics, it was also immediately obvious that where there was once glee, was now a feeling I can only describe as rote and awkward.
It's one of my first memories in considering "Is this what it's like to grow older?"
I thanked my family member, and with melancholy remarked something to the lines of "It's a shame I don't find it as funny as I used to."
This young, single digit me was partly wrong. What I was realizing without yet realizing I realized (AAA, English!), was, um... lets keep it simple and say "change". A progress in developing whatever sophistication I may have managed to scrounge up, when compared to the simplicity on display.
That said, I expect we all can still yet agree with the sentiment. That it is a shame "it's not as funny", or perhaps the word would be endearing, as it used to be. That the spirit of the thing once enjoyed is gone, and if presented again, unchanged, it becomes obvious all that is left in effect is some dead reanimated shell. It's gross. It's sad. And it's not how things should be, this soulless necromancy.
And after watching this POS Paint-by-Numbers Bungo has the audacity to call a a Vidoc, Vi-DOC, as in Documentary as in "Information" ( by whatever standard such is made by )... ... ... man. Why even waste more words...
...
...I agree with the bulk of the sentiment here, not that any of this is surprising. In fact, the only surprise I have is how strongly y'all have spoken here, as IF by surprise.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, this personal story is what all this reminded me of. I'll let you all infer what goes where.

Well yeah. That's what I mean. It's been this way for a few years, but in this years case it seems particularly potent. So much so that we're stating out loud the (I presume) obvious. And I, for whatever reason, find such interesting.
I mean, it's not surprising coming out from a collection of folks who regularly post on dedicated Bungie fan site, not at all. We're all yell'n at clouds, and yeah, fine. Just, I wonder, what is it about this time that brings out the obvious into words?
Hence in part, the story posted.
