Have you seen the 1998 remake of Psycho? It's a more or less shot for shot remake of the original 1960 classic by Hitchcock. It's updated to be in color, with some minor tweaks to modernize it, and adds more nudity and gore.
It's also an absolutely gigantic waste of time. Vince Vaughn is nowhere near as good as Anthony Perkins, and everything just feels off. It's a weird soulless imitation of the original. It adds nothing new to the experience to justify itself, and therefore completely lacks the subversive nature that its predecessor possessed.
Why do I bring this up?

I'm excited that it seems the console wars may be coming to an end. Hell, consoles themselves may be coming to an end. So shall be gone console exclusive games!
After a quarter of a century, Halo will join the Playstation library! That's a big deal! But nobody these days wants to play the original campaign with its archaic 2001's graphics.
And while visually appealing and a graphical upgrade, nobody these days wants to play the original anniversary campaign with its archaic 2011's graphics.
And if there's one thing that Microsoft knows how to do, is milk Master Chief's teet for every single drop of milk they can get! So, Playstationers can now enjoy the original anniversary unreal remastered campaign for the first time in (airhorn BWA BWA BWAAA) Maaaxxiimmuuumm Rreessooluuutioonn!!!
All snark aside, I think it's awesome that everyone on all platforms can now play the Halo campaign, so why not gussy it up!

It's a mistake to think they are 'archaic'.
The graphics weren't just the way they are because of hardware limitations. They were still a choice. A choice which defined the feel, vibe, and emotion of the game.
They were as much a part of the game's identity as anything. The visual look was carefully crafted. Even sadder because up until very recently, you technically could not even play the campaign with the original 'archaic' graphics, because MCC did not faithfully recreate the original look in classic mode.

Fwiw, you don't need to defend Halo 1 to me, I agree with you. It's still a beautiful game and selfishly, I kind of hope the original graphics don't ship with the PS version. It can be that one thing us Xbox players get to keep.

Campaign Evolved isn't a new graphical layer, it's a ground-up remake. There are no original graphics.
On that note, I'm curious about the engine situation.

Supposedly it's running Blam under the hood, specifically the Reach incarnation of that engine, or at least some sort of Unreal/Blam hybrid engine in which they've carved out the original physics behaviors or something like that. I'm not sure of the details, but multiple outlets have reported that this is the case.
(Why the Reach incarnation specifically? Who knows.)

Not the argument… but
Has new technology in say, the last 15 years, made your life better?
Think about it. Discount medical or agricultural advances. Think consumer technology.
The answer is not only largely no, but it has actually made life worse.

I think this remake looks . . . fine.
And I think that’s the problem. Halo needs to wow. We’ve had over a decade of “fine” now. They seem stuck. This remake seems like it’s not enough of a departure to be all that interesting, but it doesn’t stick to the original enough to feel like a love letter.
I still desperately wish they would just stay off the damn internet, go away and make a game without any input from what they think people want. I think they could make a good game, but it seems like they spend all their time just reacting to the community at large, and that seems like a fools errand.
And, just once, I’d love to see them make a game that actually concludes a story.

If they can just stop going in and un-concluding stories which had previously been concluded it'll be an improvement.
+1

I would've had more respect for this post if you trusted enough to leave out the link.
