It's a meaty one at over 20 minutes long. Still annoyed there's no version of this game that doesn't feature PvP. Feels like it's been ages since I saw Chris Butcher repping anything from Bungie, I still regularly think about his '08 Bungie Podcast appearance where he predicted the increasing social nature of video games.

Joseph Cross Leaves Bungie

by Cody Miller @, Music of the Spheres - Never Forgot, Thursday, December 18, 2025, 18:06 (43 days ago) @ CyberKN

https://kotaku.com/marathon-art-director-joseph-cross-leaves-bungie-2000654665

Cross told Kotaku that it was his decision to leave. “I’m super proud of the project and what the team accomplished over the last six years,” he said. He also recently shared a clip on X from Bungie’s latest ViDoc showing how Marathon has evolved following its delay after negative fan feedback from an alpha test earlier in the year.

Leaving right before your game ships is a totally normal thing to do.

I don't know if I'll have the skill or the bandwidth to do everything, but this looks encouraging to me.

This is a much better showing than the alpha rollout at the start of the year. I remain skeptical toward the PvP-only nature of the game, and specifically how they’re going to tell an interesting story within an essentially non-narrative framework, but hey… We’ll get there when we get there.

The graphics definitely look a lot better. I can’t speak to gameplay at all since I’ve yet to play any version of this thing myself.

I take contracts seriously, so I can't be super specific about what I have seen in the new Marathon, but lots of games have provided story through things that appear on screen, but not in a narrative context. You know, item descriptions, encyclopedias, computer terminals…

Fine to say that's not what you want/enjoy, but that different than "they won't." implying they can't.

But they can't.

Look at their output in the last decade. They are perfectly capable of using such things to dump lore. But to tell a story? A narrative? Naw.
