Valve being Valve, nothing is guaranteed, but the game is in an advanced stage of development. It’s known through datamining that they’ve been plugging away at it for six years now and extensive work has been done on environments for a new interpretation of Xen. They’re using voxel-based destructible environments and an advanced object distortion algorithm. The game is at least in an end-to-end playable beta state, but possibly close to final, as that information is about a year out of date now.

There’s also a comically intricate hair physics simulator.

They could very well scrap the entire project tomorrow, but it's real and it's very far along.
