Cada planeta do Destiny tem o mesmo tamanho do "Halo: Reach" diz Bungie

Good luck reading the article (unless you speak Portuguese like me!) -- and most of it is all information we've read and heard elsewhere, but this part is highly interesting:

"Os destinos [cenários onde se passa o jogo] como Marte, Lua, Terra, cada um deles é mais ou menos do mesmo tamanho que todo o jogo 'Halo: Reach'".

Translation: The destinations like Mars, the Moon, Earth, each of them is more or less the same size as the whole game of 'Halo: Reach'.

... What does this mean?

Like playable areas are comparable to Reach levels? I don't get it.

That's what it sounded like, yes. This info came out of an interview, so it's not like there was an opportunity for followup/clarification questions for us out here. ;)

Kind of like how Bungie said all of the geometry of Halo 1 could fit into the end of Great Journey in Halo 2?

Which was more fun, the canyon on Great Journey, or Halo 1?

Well, Halo 1, but there were several other places in Halo 2, the combination of which could be argued to be more fun than Halo 1 due to the size.

'size' does matter to some degree but basically just another vague reference to the vastness of Destiny …

Original pong < 8k, still fun … size is not the only 'deciding' factor in 'fun ness' is funness a word? whatever..

Miller jumped in below, but I know where this comes from and suppose it's worth clarifying. At some point one of the artists made the rough size comparison for a team meeting to show off just how much stuff we were making at our quality bar. It's exciting, but not really something I'd want to throw out their for public consumption (whoops!) because it's hard to grok. It's fuzzy math.

The spaces are big, and they're designed not just to give you room to roam, but to give you lots of interesting stuff to do. We have a lot of work to do to show them off in the right way this year. That said, I didn't really sink in for me until I just ran around and soaked it all in with my own virtual feets and eyeballs.

How big is the entirety of Reach's playspace, anyways? I'm having a tough time imagining all the levels in Reach mashed together into one giant level. Does anyone know how it would compare to, say, the exterior world of Skyrim?

Measurements in this respect are always really weird. Like, how do you count things like Reach's space section? If you simply tally up playable surface area, things that feel like huge amounts of content become negligible, and things that feel negligible count as gigantic amounts of playable space.

But clearly, the best standard is "fraction of surface area of Daggerfall."

"Os itens de personalização são recompensas que você ganha cada vez que completa uma missão, são bônus que você ganha jogando", explicou Christian. "Às vezes não são modificações, mas novos equipamentos que podem ser utilizados no personagem do jogador, como uma nova armadura ou capacete, ou equipamento que você pode utilizar na sua nave pessoal".

"The customization items are rewards you get every time you complete a mission, bonuses you get by playing", explained Christian. "Sometimes they're not modifications, but new equipments that can be used by the player, like a new armor or helmet, or an equipment you can use on your own personal ship."

Overjoyous emphasis mine.

Anyway, the phrasing is a bit ambiguous if the item could be used ON the ship or IN the ship, so that's where my excitement stems from.

Recall that the initial concept of halo you were going to be able to drive around the whole thing. After a certain point they may be able to dynamically load sections of the Destiny map so you could theoretically drive around a whole world. Of course, generating that much content will be crazy, but awesome.

I wonder how many destinations they'll include in total. Right now we know they have, if I'm not mistaken, Mercury, Venus, Earth, The Moon, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Europa. Did I miss any that are more or less confirmed? I wonder how many beyond that there will be. Pluto is an obvious choice, and there are other asteroids/moons that would be solid destinations, such as Phobos. Really if they wanted to there's a bunch of additional locales they could include.

I would temper your expectations on this quote as it is nebulous in its definition. It's hard to compare our spaces to Reach because our game is an ever-expanding world where one day the world you are discovering may be one size but the next you realize that there are more areas that open up. Our worlds are far more fungable than what you see at first sight. what may be one size day one may be different day 100. Reach was very large in its perception due to levels like New Alexandria which mainly consisted of empty fly-able space, it's hard to compare the two. In short, comparing the two is tricky due to their unique attributes. My advice is to not worry about the size in any game, as size can be deceiving compared to how much enjoyment you get out of a space.
