Machine Gods?! *Speculation* (Destiny)

I don't have a ton of time, but the voice over at the beginning of the Devils Lair strike video has my wheels turning. Apparently the mission is to destroy a "Machine God" which will send their (the Fallen's?) souls screaming back to hell. At the end we see an odd high tech machine apparently absorbing Fallen souls. What's it doing? Giving power to a high level Fallen? Preserving souls so foot soldiers can be respawned like Guardians?

And Machine God?! A spherical Machine God as seen at the end of the video. Do we know of any other spherical machine gods in Destiny?

Preserving souls looks like that's what Sepkis Prime is doing, but for what it's pretty hard to tell. Though going back and looking at the image that was drawn of him a couple BWU's ago suggests that maybe that's how it receives it's lazer face powers? But I do like the idea that it preserves the souls so they can be respawned like Guardians. It fits in nicely with the whole theme of their souls escaping their bodies after death.

Not that we know of, unless the Vex have some crazy machine god they worship.

Pssst, The Traveler. I think the traveler counts.

Oooooooooooooh, trying to class the Traveler is a difficult thing to do. Is the Traveler the giant sphere, or is that merely the vessel of the Traveler? We don't really know for sure yet. Too much mystery remains about it and these next 10 or so years just can't happen soon enough to figure it out.

It's all coming full circle now.

I wonder if any of the other enemies have a deity they worship and protect; that we have to slay?

What about the Vex who are all machines? They didn't simply travel to our solar system like the Fallen, Hive, and Cabal seemed to. They traveled through time! What is so important about right now? Why not attack earlier or later? Humanity would be an easy target a few hundred or thousand years earlier, but maybe it's not about us. Maybe it's about the crippled sphere hanging low above our planet? Maybe this is the one time the Traveler is ever vulnerable and the Vex are trying to exploit that.

I'm still suspicious of the Traveler, machine gods can be trouble, after all.
