http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/05/01/destiny-competitive-multiplayer-needs-to-be-unlocked

"Destiny's competitive multiplayer won't be available the second you boot the game up for the first time.

Bungie has revealed to Eurogamer that, unlike Halo, you'll need to unlock Player vs Player (PvP) gameplay, which should take you around a couple of hours. Once you've done this with one character, however, it'll be available to all of your other ones too."

How does DBO feel about this?

P.S. Maybe i'm late to the party on this one, but there's a "Destiny Strike Mission Developer Diary" video embedded in this article that i haven't seen yet, and i'm almost positive i've watched and read everything there is to watch and read from Tuesday... Anyway the neat part for me was that you get to see the Character Creation screen for (as far as i know) the first time! Let me know what you think about that too!

I've always been wary of playing matchmaking before finishing the campaign anyway (for the risk of spoilers), so I don't think I'll be affected by this.

You can get some idea here and in the responses that follow. I don't mind it a bit, but matchmaking is usually the last thing I delve into.

Excellent, thanks.

Like Pete and Kermit said, I don't tend to run around MP until after I have beaten the campaign.

I usually won't touch multiplayer until I've had the chance to beat campaign. At the same time, even though this personally won't impact me based on my play style, I really disagree with not allowing everyone to be able to play multiplayer from the moment they put the disc in.

Maybe it's important to introduce players to the mechanics first and, in lieu of a vanilla tutorial, they're using the campaign.

Or maybe they're using this to entice those people that go straight into multiplayer to perhaps explore the campaign.

The campaign really seems to be the core idea behind Destiny. I'm sure you'd be willing to slightly inconvenience people in order make sure they had a taste of it if you were Bungie too. Drink the kool aid, dude. Forget your ideals. Buy a PS4. You never knew Marty. Bungie. Bungie.

Bungie.

I think what Bungie is doing sounds great, but it doesn't really impact me because I care more about campaign and single-player experiences, at least at first.

It's their creation, and since it isn't Halo and is instead something brand new out of any of our depths, Bungie knows best right now by default.

Also, the way this game seems to be presented...

... seems to suggest that the lines between campaign, co-op, multiplayer, and anything else are going to be very blurred. I have this feeling we'll be hopping between strikes, faction warfare, and lone exploration fluidly and in spades.

Same for me. Whatever I might think of it, realistically I was never going to jump right into PvP anyway, so meh. I don't doubt there will be some negative reactions, though. I'm sure Bungie has their reasons, but it's hard to judge the validity of those reasons having not played it myself. I'll wait and see.

The interesting thing I think is that I doubt most people will be upset about it when they play the game because I don't expect Destiny to have a menu that has PvP and Campaign as two separate items. They'll jump into their first game and essentially go through an extended tutorial of Destiny gameplay.

And heck, on an unrelated note to my previous point, GTA Online didn't launch until 2 weeks after GTA V and that game sold 30+ million copies.

I have not done even 3 missions after the tutorial in GTA V, but have played almost every co-op Job there is and am having a blast.
