Challenge (Destiny)
So from the videos it appears that Destiny will work like Halo, in that when you die you can simply respawn with your team.
Co-op Halo is very very easy because of this.
How will Destiny end up providing a challenge? Will there be more enemies with each player added? Has this been examined in any of the coverage?
Challenge
If by like Halo you mean a 40 second respawn time if nobody can help you out then sure.
Personally I think the much linger respawn will add a good deal of challenge and teamwork. Lose one man and you may be in a world of trouble, especially if there's a large enemy between you and his Ghost! It's kinda brilliant really.
(Presumably there's no get out of jail free respawn if the rest of your team runs away from the danger...)

Death mechanics in Destiny aren't like Halo. I'm unsure which video you saw that implied this.

Fill me in man. How do they work then?

All I've seen in the strike video is that someone died and had to be rez'd by his teammates.

But there was a 40 second countdown there as well. Maybe that's what he's talking about.

Ah so like Gears of War 2?
That game was also pretty easy on co-op :-/

I can't say much, but safe to say, Challenge is not something you will find lacking in Destiny.

So glad to hear this. Thanks! :D

I'll have to show this post to one of my buddies. We've been discussing Destiny a lot lately (for obvious reasons) and one of his big concerns was that co-op would be basically optional like it is in Halo (you can choose to work as a team, but it's not a requirement for success). The Strike video didn't really show any cooperation, so he has been somewhat pessimistic lately. Hopefully this and some of other talk about these "six man raids" can re-excite him.

If you don't play like and communicate like a team, you will fail.

"So - do you owe me a beer?"
"I..."
"Do you?"
"Yes. Yes, I owe you a beer."

I have the odd feeling Luke Smith is already laughing at posts like that.

Haha I'm always so impressed with the "Detail finders" of the Bungie community, Datto's analysis in particular this time.
Anyways, you're talking about this countdown right?
Maybe if you don't get revived by a teammate you'll have some debuff when you respawn or you'll respawn not near the fight. Anyways I imagine it's really easy for a fireteam or raid to wipe out in what appears to almost a minute of respawn time.
I'm guessing we'll find out for sure at E3 because I'm sure some people are going to wipe/fail to revive their fellow guardians.
Failure states
I wonder if party death is the only fail state on tougher missions? Will we also have things to protect, or speed benchmarks to clear? Maybe there are missions where you have to race the enemies to some goal.
I dunno, we haven't heard anything like that, but I doubt all raids will just be "Go here, and kill everything till the end"

Yeah I want to start wrestling with AI on objectives beyond "kill or be killed". I'd love to fight to secure an objective knowing that the AI may move on another objective at that time.
Though I'm even more curious about the puzzles that require coordination on part of the whole party. I think this is where we're really exploring how Bungie will bring new ideas to mainstream shooters.

A: There is no evidence that I was one of the parties in that exchange.
B: Only one of those parties was actually playing - the other seemed to have been observing.
C: I have never played, nor even observed, a Destiny raid in action.
All three of these statements are true.

Cool. Don't think this post was accusatory, it was genuinely a question as to how death will work, and what we'll be challenged to do.
Challenge
I didn't take it as an accusation. I was more curious if you saw an interview or something since there's a number of them that I haven't seen yet.
Also, our rez/death mechanic doesn't fit in a soundbyte and requires some play time before you see the breadth of it.

I'm getting the sense that one of the biggest issues that Bungie is experiencing sharing Destiny with the press is that a lot of it doesn't fit neatly in a soundbyte.
And that is really encouraging.

Bungie tends to do really mechanically rich games, and the press doesn't understand mechanics very well. I remember Halo going through similar pains 5 months before it released.
Though, restricting the press to a super slim chunk of the game doesn't help either.

Clearly, Bungie should adopt a more CoD-esque design philosophy in the future:
"We have a dog."
"We have some fish."
Brilliant.

Depending on how we interpret "in action", this leaves open the possibility that you've been watching exclusive recordings of Destiny gameplay featuring observer commentary.

Bungie games already have fish. In Halo's 3 and Reach, you can even go fishing with guns. Dogs aren't really there, but dogs are basically just less-cool moa. Speaking of which, Destiny should make moa usable like a vehicle.
"We have some fish."
->
"You can kill fish."
->
"You can kill fish with machine guns."
->
"You can kill fish with machine guns while riding a moa."
Now that is more like it.
Hedge, a request?
A Thunderlord equipped Fronk riding a Moa. Thanks in advance <3
Yep - on my Oculus Rift
