Passage of time? (Destiny)
So just watching the trailer for the umpteenth time and, I haven't seen much discussion around this, what is up with the passage of time.
Looks like they're running in and it's pretty bright out, Sunset maybe?
And then after some fighting, we get a pacing breather and gawk at the gorgeous skybox which boom, looks like night time?
Is this an indication about how quickly time will pass in game?
I'm pretty excited if so because I love watching the environment change at an accelerated rate in comparison to real life. It was amazing running from one town to another in Skyrim and having the time of day change drastically. It'd be great to go on patrol with my mates and explore/fight our way through night and day.
I can also now understand the comment about sitting around to watch the sunset. It's weird, I'm excited to hear if there really is the ability to sit in this game...
Passage of time?
I think they patched the video together from different play throughs.
I do hope they have accelerated day/night just so I'm not seeing the same time of day when I get online every evening. Plus, isn't Venus's day very long? I would hate to have to wait 4 months to play a night mission there.

Hahaha, that would make it very interesting though.

I think it's going to be very much like Red Dead Redemption. Time passes more quickly than normal, but not so quickly as to be noticeably sped up moment to moment.
I spent a lot of time just gawking at the environmental changes in RDR.
Another RDR-related clue: Bungie hired Danny Bulla.
I clearly remember a day/night cycle speed video
Anyone got that handy?

Wasn't that in the O Brave New World ViDoc? Just some wind turbines and stuff.
Passage of time?
I always thought it would be nice if time of day on Earth locations matched present time of day. Accelerated time of day stuff always felt odd to me.
Maybe it's something Bungie can tweak. Endless night special events? :D
I clearly remember a day/night cycle speed video
Yeah, and if I remember correctly, that was more of a time-lapse clip designed to show off the cycle. I would not expect that to be representative of the actual speed in-game.

I disagree. To echo bluerunner's point, I'd hate to experience only one time of day because that's the time I usually play. I loved how it was done in Red Dead Redemption. I didn't have a wait an hour to see the sunset and the stars come out.
Random sort of OT plug

Agreed with Kermit. Also, if you haven't played Red Dead, pete, you absolutely must.

I could get behind a decelerated day/night cycle. As long as the period isn't a multiple of 24 hours, it'd provide a consistently fresh look at the game and its levels while still giving me the chance to fully explore the environment during a particular shade of day.
That won't happen, though. All evidence points to an accelerated pace. They're probably basing the length of a Destiny-day on the average/expected length of time people will play for a session.
Passage of time?
I think a 7 hour cycle would be all right. That way if I got on at 7pm each night I would get a slightly different experience if I visited the same area as the previous night. Plus it would be slow enough to enjoy it.
I don't want Minecraft fast days where it gets dark every 15 minutes. I want to see a sunrise and sunset maybe just once each during a typical week of playing 7-9pm. Keep them special.
Plus offset the day/night cycle on the different planets, so if I'm in the mood for a nighttime raid I'll have somewhere to go.
Oh, and, since I'm being wishful, how cool would it be to see an eclipse during the game?

As you slowly begin to realize... that's no eclipse. Be Brave.
Yes.

Agreed right back. RDR is great. Even liked Undead Redemption, and I'm not supposed to like zombies.

While we're at it, throw in meteor showers and comets. Also, Mercury should be fun, since its year is shorter than its day.
I just love that you called it "Sweet Night Time"...

"Night Time" was not enough for THAT

Yeah, right now I'm taking this video as more indicative about the passage of time until we have something more concrete to work with.
