Things Not Yet Shown (Destiny)

You guys got to see a lot during the Alpha. But there's got to be more. Much more. What are you sure will be in the final game? Or at least, what are you hoping for?

My list:

- At least one more full zone on Earth, the ruins of Chicago. I'm hoping for street to street fighting with plenty of flooded buildings to explore up and down into.

- Obviously, the other planets. Mercury, Venus, Mars, and who knows what from the outer planets. Also the Reef.

- More focuses. Two focuses per class seems very very small for all the big talk about Destiny. I'd expect at least one more focus for each class.

- Vehicles. It's already been hinted that some sort of Warthog type vehicle suitable for a Fireteam will exist. How about tanks? How about aircraft? I bet we'll see all of these.

- Cloaking. Maybe only a Hunter super, but I can't imagine a Bungie game with all this Space Magic without somebody somewhere being able to go invisible for a time.

- Capture The Flag. With spawnable personal Sparrows, but having to walk the flag home CTF matches could be epic.

- Maybe some sort of one life competitive game type... except you can respawn your teammates via their Ghosts. The end of these games would be awesome cat and mouse competitions as you and your one remaining enemy each try to sneak and revive teammates to continue the fight.

That's just my first thoughts. I bet you people who played the Alpha can think of even more cool stuff! Have at it!

Note on Vehicles

by MrPadraig08 ⌂ @, Steel City, Wednesday, June 18, 2014, 10:54 (3814 days ago) @ Ragashingo

So I'm not sure about a warthog type vehicle, but as a guy who loved vehicles in Halo and wanted them in Destiny... it gets complicated.

1. Vehicles have a different role now. Instead of Fight or Flight, they are most certainly all about flight. The Pike does some decent damage, but one super or well place shots and you're toast. The only exception is the interceptor, which is a bit OP right now, but again one super and it's gone.

2. Splatters are difficult and not efficient to kill enemies. I think this is the biggest departure from the past, vehicles are no longer this health based physics kill-all like they used to be. To get any splatters in the Pike, I had to shoot up a guardian a bit then juke into them. So it can be done, but the leg work involved almost outweighs the benefit.

3. Mobility has been improved dramatically. What use to be a bit antiquated handling for vehicles is now super charged with the sparrow and pike. The Pike is like a wild horse, it kicks around and can turn on a dime. With the awesome juke move added, it's my favorite vehicle right now. So on top of vehicles being weak to gunfire, they now encourage the flight mentality with excellent mobility for the getaway.

This is most certainly a move to focus on Destiny being a gun game, and so people like me don't do donuts around an area and get kills with an ammo-less killer.

And you know what? That's not bad. I welcome all other types of vehicles not yet seen, but I think they will stick along these lines. I don't think we'll see another almighty battering ram we did with the Chopper, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure that would be best for the game anyway.

If this does not make an appearance I shall be gutted.

Also the Reef.

This

Maybe upon reaching a certain level see here for my speculative notion.

- Cloaking. Maybe only a Hunter super, but I can't imagine a Bungie game with all this Space Magic without somebody somewhere being able to go invisible for a time.

This has been the conclusion I've been slowly coming to. Unless there's some good reason for a heavier-duty weapons platform to traverse long distances (say maybe some kind of escort mission), I doubt there will be any stunning revelations in the motor pool.

Having instant access to the Shrike means there won't be a need to pick up another member of your fireteam and carry them anywhere, unless an objective has them carrying something. I don't see that happening enough for a whole separate vehicle to be justified.

Everything is now some flavor of hoverbike. Which is great, if you like that sort of thing.

It really does all come down to mobility. Would you even really want a tank, what with the potential to be rocketbait or a giant target for Supers? It would have to be so resilient to damage or so overpowered as to shift the game balance dramatically, I'd think.

Very much looking forward to forests/swamps on other planets.

I'm hoping somewhere in the course of the DLC cycle we see a whole new class or two. More foci are a given at this point, I think.

- Capture The Flag. With spawnable personal Sparrows, but having to walk the flag home CTF matches could be epic.

Also very excited to see how CTF would play. I'm hoping we get a new swath of innovative gametypes like we saw in Reach. I want to see a Destiny version of Headhunter.

- Maybe some sort of one life competitive game type... except you can respawn your teammates via their Ghosts. The end of these games would be awesome cat and mouse competitions as you and your one remaining enemy each try to sneak and revive teammates to continue the fight.

I've wondered about that mechanic in PvP. Being able to rez teammates adds a lot of wrinkles to typical gameplay in ways that I usually enjoy.

I loved Headhunter, I'm sad that it never quite caught on. It was a ridiculous amount of fun if you weren't too competitive about it.

Xenos and I were theorizing about this after seeing the alpha site of b.net, there is a set of stats for revives in crucible. So it's definitely going to be employed in some fashion if their going to count the stats for it.

I sincerely hope so too. The cloaking effect seems to indicate an "Arc" association and we haven't yet seen the skill palette for the BladeDancer, have we?

I'm counting on it, in fact as things stand I will be very much surprised if they don't go down that road. Warrior (Titan) , Rogue/Ranger (Hunter), Mage (Warlock) and...

Cleric/Medic (Full Support Type).

Unless Bungie can crate a whole new never before seen class then Medic would likely be it.
( Tigerman would be its own class. >_> Just say'n )

I did notice in the Grimoire that under the classes section there was a fourth card to be unlocked. It could mean there's a fourth class that will appear in the game's final release, or it's another Ghost Fragment card. Either option seems equally likely at this point.

I am leaning more towards the latter as there is also a fourth card under race. This of course could also mean a fourth race, but I find that even more unlikely than a fourth class that hasn't been revealed.

(Fourth race will be Fallen, obviously)

Nope. Tigerman.

Still holding out for Tigerman to appear in any capacity at some point.

But the suggestion that Fallen might be a playable race, well... Apparently the QoR has a couple Fallen bodyguards, by the looks of it.

Could be that some members of the Fallen realize that the Darkness won't discriminate, and the best chance for survival is for all races to band together to protect the Citadel...err, Traveller. Or, I mean, there could always be less noble motivations. THAT'S STARTING TO SOUND PRETTY GREY TO ME.

But realistically, unless it would be a Dreg model, the silhouette for a playable fallen would be too different from the other races for PvP, wouldn't it? The reason the race stuff works right now is because it becomes irrelevant once the helmets go on, right?

Honestly I do not recall seeing any statistics on ships in the Alpha. Sparrows had durability stats, and some had more features, but ships as far as I could tell were identical except in looks. If someone has a picture of a ship in their inventory from the Alpha we can confirm or deny.

Attach an SSD to your console to emulate the increase in ship speed?

I'm pretty sure the PS4 allows you to upgrade to a SSD and the XBO let's you use an external SSD. Anyone has any idea if any of these measures actually help with speed or are the transfer rates limited by the mobos?

For the PS4 SSD upgrade, it seems to not be worth the money. Here's a great test (linking directly to the meat and potatoes here, but the whole shebang is worth reading)

I don't know much about this external SSD solution that you mentioned for the Xbone, but assuming it's using the USB 3.0 ports, then theoretically the data could be transferred as quickly as the external drive can spit it out.

My plan for my XBone is to get a Seagate hybrid drive and put it in an enclosure. I want a decent amount of space for the money (read: not an SSD), but I'd like to have some performance boost vs. just sticking a regular mechanical clunker in there. I'm waiting for now because I don't really need the extra space yet, and I'd like to get to a point where enough people have used their own drive/enclosure combos that I can tell from reviews which enclosures might have issues with the XBone, if any.
