First rule of troubleshooting: Turn it off. Turn it back on.

There is no logical reason why this should work. But it does; I'm in.

The most known state is the absolute first one. From there things can spiral out of control.

Yeah… except this happened to me after turning my console on and just launching Destiny. Shut down, do exactly the same thing and suddenly it works. Mysterious.

Maybe something expired/timed out? Maybe there was a small yet impactful update? Maybe it's a ruse to get people to turn things on and off so they can complete their doomsday weapon?
