...do I have to play through the four stories before I can simply explore?

...can I not summon my sparrow during a story mission?

...what does it mean when enemies are immune to my shots? Need a better weapon?

...why does the crucible not show up on my menu of choices in orbit?

I feel like an idiot asking these.
