In regards to being retrograde - Venus orbits in the right direction, but actually rotates opposite of all the other planetary bodies in our solar system.

The very slow rotation in retrograde has led to the theory that proto-Venus was impacted by another large body early in its life.

Curiously, Earth is also theorized to have been impacted by a large body early in its life - the result of which giving us our moon.
