I think they didn't tell us to be honest, I can't imagine them printing the game and shipping them all out in less than 3 weeks worth of time. Someone correct me if they know better, but that's what I would guess.

On the other hand it is entirely possible they are still working on the game and the day one patch will be the "gold" version of the game.

Yeah, I have to imagine that with modern console game patching practices, they'll just ship a game disc which mostly serves as a delivery mechanism for gigabytes of assets, and then have a mandatory day one patch to bring it up to date with the latest version. I'm guessing Bungie folks are still hard at work, and probably will be right up to (and possibly after?) September 9th.

TITANFALL went Gold about a week before release. Surprised the hell out of me because like you, I had assumptions about Gold and release dates.

Yeah, and it's even more plausible with Destiny than most other console games. Most games have to be in reasonably good playable shape even if they're getting a day one patch, because not everyone will be online and get the patch. But there's no such thing as an offline Destiny player. They could almost get away with shipping a non-playabe game on disc, as long as the day one patch makes it playable.

It's called the Gold version because that's the one they put onto a special gold-coloured master disc which is used to create all the replicated copies.

You don't just wish that version away or marketingspeak around it.

Sure, but that's just the origin of the term; languages evolve over time. Plenty of modern day words have different (and in some cases, opposite) meanings to their original etymology, but that doesn't make them invalid. I'm sure ‘going gold’ will be a term that floats around in the games industry well after physical discs have ceased to be used to distribute games.

While driving to an appointment in a double lane, some guy in the lane next to me wasn't watching where he was going, and drifted right into the left side of my car. Instead of pulling away, he sort of...panicked, I guess, and steered into me even harder the moment it happened.

Crushed my left side, folded my wheel underneath like it was trying to be all S.H.I.E.L.D.-y, and left me fighting the wheel to pull over without playing snow-plow the ped-x'rs, or get creamed by traffic behind me.

I should have called the cops first thing, then maybe insurance. But nope. Called my boyfriend instead. Not sure why that is...

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Earth culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is on the Moon where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over on Earth, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Earth public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Destiny for either system, nor will they purchase any of Bungie's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Bungie has alienated an entire market with this move.

Bungie, publicly apologize and cancel Destiny for PS3 and PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I would have loved to have used more swear words, but I was referencing a GAF-famous post from when it became apparent, to everyone's shock and some people's rage, that a mainline Final Fantasy game was not going to be Sony-exclusive.
