Supermoon on the 9th (Destiny)

by Cody Miller @, Music of the Spheres - Never Forgot, Wednesday, September 03, 2014, 17:15 (3741 days ago)

In what must be either very good planning or a massive coincidence, there's going to be a supermoon on Destiny's release date. That's when the moon is at its closest to Earth, and appears the largest. It's also going to be a full moon, making it even more special.

The stars are aligned for this game. Literally.

10/10. Would use that joke as my own.

Again?

Wasn't there one around the 11th of last month too? What's the moon doing moving away and then back again?

EDIT: Unless it only counts as a Supermoon when the moon is full, and this is just the second full moon while its been close enough to be classed as such?

From wikipedia:

...approximately every 14th full moon will be a supermoon. However, halfway through the cycle the full moon will be close to apogee, and the new moons immediately before and after can be supermoons. Thus there may be as many as three supermoons per full moon cycle.

Supermoons happening in quick succession is not terribly uncommon.

Supermoons happening in quick succession is not terribly uncommon.

Especially over billions of years. ;)

It's not even just common, it's likely. If the moon is closest to earth during a full moon it stands to reason the one before and after will be really close also.

Not that I'm correcting you, just throwing in my 2 cents :)

WHOA. Awesome catch man.

Supermoon on the 9th

"The stars are aligned for this game. Literally."

[puts on pedantic nazi hat]
The use of "literally" as a worded exclamation mark is bad enough, but if you're going to make it its own sentence it had better be accurate. The only possible way that is accurate is if it's a non sequitur. Or, you think the moon is a star, and even then a supermoon has nothing to do with alignment, only proximity.

Have a nice day :)

On your first point, dictionaries all over already accept "literally" has also become a mark of hyperbolic comments, as opposed to just the original intent.

On your second point, if the Moon were a star, the full Moon would have Sol, Earth and the Moon "perfectly" aligned.

The phrase "the stars are aligned" never referred to actual stars actually being aligned in the first place, it means the astrological conditions are (perceived to be) good.
