Auto, Scout, Pulse or Cannon: Which will you choose? (Destiny)

by Dan de Board @, Sunday, September 07, 2014, 21:33 (3737 days ago)

There are four primary weapon types in Destiny: the Auto Rifle, Scout Rifle, the Pulse Rifle and the Hand Cannon.

The Auto Rifle is capable of sustained automatic fire and is best used at short to mid-range. It is also the weakest per shot of the four weapon varieties.

The Scout Rifle is a semi-automatic weapon suited to long range combat.

The Pulse Rifle fires in three-shot bursts and serves you best from medium to long range.

The Hand Cannon is semi-automatic revovler capable at short to mid-range.

During the beta, no matter my class, I was quite fond of the Scout Rifle. Despite its range recommendation, I found it worked well no matter where I was engaging the target. I usually equipped it with the long range scope upgrade to maximize my potential range, and surprisingly that didn't detract from my overall fighting capability at short range. I'm hoping it still serves me well in the full game.

I'm really excited to try the hand cannon now that its balance has been tweaked. I just hope I can do the weapon type proud.

Auto Rifles are pretty stellar too, I just hope I can find a good one.

Which primary weapon type will you pick? Are you a close range spray and pray kind of person, are you a methodical shooter that puts thought into every shot, or are you a little bit of both?

Unknown. Need to find out changes from the Beta

Auto Rifle was going to be my go to, but now that I hear that it got nerfed some, I'm wondering if Bungie "messed up" and will have somehow made the Scout Rifle the most dominant thing on the planet. I suppose I'll use whatever practically guarantees me the most kills. I wasn't a big fan of the Fusion Rifle or the Hand Cannon, but I'm sure I'll try them to get a feel.

I like the Auto Rifle with the Focused Fire upgrade: "When zoomed, this weapon fires slower, but causes additional damage." In the Beta, I used the Cydonia-AR3 with this upgrade, it was effective at longish range, but I could still use it up close to spray someone in CQC. I hope that I can use my Auto Rifle instead of a shotgun, letting me chose between sniper and fusion rifle for my Special slot.

I really enjoyed Byf's Auto Rifle guide.

Scout Rifle. I appreciated the lesser, more manageable recoil and the longer range. By the end of the beta I had a Scout Rifle that packed quite a kick. I could take out an enemy Guardian in maybe four headshots and did surprisingly well against snipers at mid range.

The Pulse Rifles in the beta were useless to me. It felt like the body shots weren't powerful enough and the inherent burst of recoil made landing headshots far less effective than the steady, accurate impacts of a Scout Rifle. We'll see what changes the full game brings.

I definitely preferred other guns to the Pulse Rifles, but at one point during the Iron Banner by far the most powerful gun I had was a Pulse Rifle. I don't know how they'll rebalance it in the final game, but I eventually found a spot to aim where the first two would hit the body and the last shot would hit the head. That seemed to make it useable. Especially if you can find a pulse rifle that had certain perks, like the last bullet did extra damage.

There were some where body shots increased critical (head shot) damage. That might be interesting.

Just let me have a storm weapon, and I'm good. All I want is a stupid amount of bullets going very, very fast.

I really loved the feeling and timing of the Pulse rifles in the beta. I was even surprisingly getting a decent K/D while using them in PvP (but eventually had to give in and switch to Auto to keep up with everyone else).

I want to continue to lean heavily on the Pulse rifle and really hope that Bungie balanced the rifles so that it's competitive.

Scout, then Hand Cannon

The Scout rifle was, by far, my favorite weapon in the Alpha and Beta. I don't expect that's going to change much, even with the weapons tweaking. I am looking forward to seeing how the hand cannon plays now that they've adjusted the stats on it. As a Hunter, I wanted to love it in the Beta but it was just so underpowered.

I'm determined to find a hand cannon I like. I expect I'll roll with a Scout rifle until I find a good one. I loved the feel of the HCs during the beta, but yes. They were underpowered, for sure.

Yup, they're much more satisfying to shoot now. I'm still favoring the Scout rifle, but mostly because my play style to keep enemies at range whenever possible. May change on that slightly once I acquire a hand cannon I can put a scope on.

In PVE, scout and a variety of fuse rifles to take down a variety of shield types.

In PVP, I seem to suck no matter what I'm carrying.

Scout all day

by GrimBrother IV, Monday, September 08, 2014, 08:36 (3736 days ago) @ Dan de Board

Loved the scout in the beta, it's exactly the kind of gun I always gravitate toward ever since COD4s M14.

Gave the auto rifle a few tries and less to the hand cannon but literally never even touched a pulse.

My only complaint about the scout rifle is they're ugly as sin. Can a brother get a khvostov-esque scout rifle? That thing was GORGEOUS

Pulse for a while anyway *MINOR-SPOILERS*

I got a pulse rifle from one of the golden chests which is useable by my level 4 titan. It's way better than any of the other options I had at the time so I think I'll rock it for a little while. Seems like the accuracy of the pulse rifles is much better than in the beta (so far).
