Wait, low rate of good loot is a BAD thing? (Destiny)

Today's CAD was pretty funny, and pretty relevant to today's discussions both here and elsewhere...

But I think it's a good thing to have low chance of loot drop for a rare weapon. It was a shame that Borderlands quickly became a game of stats, where weapon identities were unimportant unless they were of the rarest tiers or highest levels... I usually have a set of six weapons in each slot, and despite having legendary in each tier, I still turn back to my level 19 Fusion rifle and level 18 Hand Cannon. Heck, I still keep a level 16 helmet in reserve. Now if only our loot drops were class-specific...

On a somewhat related note, I was able to get my first Exotic item today:

Those Exotic Bounties are ridiculous... I feel sorry for Cody, his is proving to be an insane task...

I agree. I was expecting it to be even more difficult to find good loot. If u are constantly replacing stuff it doesn't feel as special when you find something really nice.

I'm still using white weapons in crucible. Whenever I get an upgraded version of them I'll switch, but until then stability and impact are all I care about there. I really like that weapons can stay useful even when they're not as good in PvE.

I was expecting it to be even more difficult to find good loot.

I remember when Bungie was talking about how special you would feel to earn a rare weapon, and that you could wield it as a trophy, telling people of the quest you conquered to get it... But with the exception of my Exotic shotgun, all I've seen so far is chance, or spending of uncommon currency for difficult-to-get weapons/gear. It's somewhat disappointing after so much emphasis on a sense of accomplishment. I have three legendary weapons, and zero attachment or personal investment in any of them.

What we were promised:

"Whoa, dude, that thing is awesome! Where'd you get that!?"

"Boy, let me tell you a story that you ain't gonna believe."

What we got:

"Huh, that gun seems better than mine, how'd you get it?"

"It was a random drop during a Patrol mission on Venus."

"Oh, okay. Yeah, that's how I got this one too."

---

I was hoping for more quests, more specific objectives and rules for what we want. I've had a blast doing the weekly, but the only incentive is coins. Coins to simply BUY a rare item. Now it's just a grind again, but a slower grind. What if the Hardest tier of the weekly rewarded you with a specific weapon, or piece of gear? What if you had to do the regular-difficulty weekly, but alone, and without dying?

That would be earning your gear. You'd be much more attached to each Legendary thing you got, because you really DID earn it.

If u are constantly replacing stuff it doesn't feel as special when you find something really nice.

This. While I don't much care for shotguns, I definitely feel like I earned it, and I'm definitely not letting go of it, because I actually had to actively go out of my way to get it. Hopefully Bungie builds upon this concept.

I'm betting (as probably most are) the Raid is where we're gonna get these types of stories to tell about the loot we have that we feel so attached to.

That's what I ended up doing to get my Exotic shotty. But I don't really use shotguns.

Someone tell me how and and when I should be using a solar shotgun, please.

A shotgun with high rate of fire, high stability, AND the highest range of any shotgun?
The Crucible's a'callin...

On the cabal. I have the Comedian, and it works amazing for taking out shielded Cabal.

I use a solar fusion rifle. Gets the job done and I don't have to get close enough to smell their breath.

In PvE, Titans love shotguns. On Defenders, you can get your Force Barrier up and go CQB crazy. On Striker, I've been using the double jump Shoulder Charge/shotgun to the face combo. Interested to see how Juggernaut works (like the should charge but you get a shield instead of a melee).

I've given up. It's not worth it.

Where did you get an exotic bounty?

I saw a ticker message in a Crucible match about someone finding a Corrupted Hand Cannon item, which DestinyDB would suggest leads to the Thorn hand cannon via some sort of bounty but I'm lost here.

I have an exotic bounty too, for the bad juju pulse rifle apparently. The first step is weekly heroic.

In the beta I didn't like the pulse rifles at all. Now I love them. This is one of the exotics I'm looking forward to getting.
