Reached Lv20... Lost interest. (Destiny)

by Hyokin, New York, Monday, September 22, 2014, 09:52 (3758 days ago)

Don't get me wrong, like a lot of my fine fellow DBOers, I don't think Destiny is a bad game and that it has a high degree of re-playability and fun. However, once I finished the story and reached Lv20, I sort of lost interest

I feel like the only way to progress now is to play Crucible(and I dislike competitive online multiplayer.)

The story missions were keeping me going... despite there being so very little story and so very little development, I did enjoy it. I've also read through most of the Grimoire on BNET, which added a lot of interesting things to the game!

Dregs have Arm Envy and I think that's hilarious. ;)

I think I've clocked more hours just patrolling the Cosmodrome shooting guys and finding chests than I have actually doing Patrol Missions, Story Missions, or playing Crucible. I want to explore and find interesting things, not the same three areas and then go to orbit, fly to another planet, and do the same thing.

I guess I wanted an open world, not a wider version of a linear level.

The graphics are gorgeous, the audio is amazing, and the soundtrack knocks my socks off. I just hate that a game that I enjoy so much has so much dependance on grinding and competitive play...

Did I mention that I LOVE fighting the Cabal?

I don't know why, but they're really fun to shoot!

Overall, I'd give it a 6/10.
Great gameplay, awesome sound, lacking story, annoying to grind.

Yeah, it's kinda weird how much I thought I'd play Destiny before I came out, and now that I have it, playing after story completion just seems pointless. Sure, there are Raids and everything, but big whoop. Equipping shitty gear just because of its light rating to rank up is kinda bullshit. Not to mention...

Crucible is kinda shit.

I really preferred just regular experience points and level ups. I don't really like the Gear/Light leveling system. :\

Crucible is kinda shit.

I am a lot better at it than I was in the Beta, but I still really REALLY dislike it.

And herein lies my philosophical limitation: I don't quite hate Crucible, but I really dislike it. At this point (level 23), it exists as one of the most focused paths forward.

I will not play it to level up. I will not play it until I can tolerate it. I will not willingly give my time in order to progress past artificial constraints. I will not learn which guns give such tremendous advantage. I will not grind through it for an exotic bounty.

It was way more fun to level normally, and this level up from random drops stuff is almost immoral. I'm only partially exaggerating.

Why does this make me so mad? Because I've realized that the best thing about playing Bungie's games has been this community. I want to like Destiny so I can come here and discuss with all of you. I needed Destiny to be great because I love this forum and want to share experiences.

And if I give up on Destiny I will have less reason to come here.

DBO: I just can't quit you.

I don't see that you have to play Crucible at all. You can get all the Legendary armor you need from your class Vanguard and Legendary weapons from the Vanguard Quartermaster. To get the Vanguard Marks for those items all you need to do is play the daily, weekly, and strike playlists.

On progressing with Crucible

I feel like the only way to progress now is to play Crucible(and I dislike competitive online multiplayer.)

Coming up on 28, I don't feel this way. It does speed things up a little, and is needed here and there if you want to finish some Exotic Bounties, but for the most I don't think it's necessary. I've pretty much only been playing Crucible for pure fun, not to level. I don't bother with half the bounties because they're tedious weapon sprees or LOL Salvage.

Almost all of my stuff I use comes from co-op, none of the armor I use is, and I think only one of my back up weapons was from Crucible. The only thing you really lose out on is Crucible marks for the factions, but I don't think their gear is really worth it aside from any Legendaries you might like, and grinding material for Reputation instead of playing Crucible is obviously way more boring. I've got most of my gear as drops, and armor you get in Vault of Glass is definitely better than everything else I've seen that isn't Exotic.
