What a terrible game it must be without PSN+ (Destiny)

I just realized. The best way to get marks, Vanguard or Crucible, is exclusive to PSN+ subscribers. If you don't subscribe, then your only way to get marks is to trade in resources. Buying Legendaries with marks is the easiest and best way to get gear. Trading in resources for marks gives you pittance. It must be excruciating earning any sort of legendary gear without paying the yearly fee.

Why on Earth Bungie would allow someone to even have such a bad experience I don't know. Either the game should have required PSN+ for everybody, or for nobody.

That sounds about right (and Yahtzee at least seemed to think so; I don't think I've heard from anyone else that plays without PSN+ or XBL Gold).

What? It doesn't require it for anybody; do you mean it should've either been totally required or not required at all?

I'm pretty sure the people that don't have PSN+ would take a reduced experience over no experience at all.

Maybe they're just between subscription periods, or maybe they're trying to decide if Destiny is worth getting PSN+ for the full experience.

He means it should either be strictly required to even play Destiny (which it isn't) or not be required to play Strikes/Crucible (which it is).

I was going to make a dumb post about having Xbox Live, but this. It doesn't make sense to arbitrarily require PSN+/Live for things that don't require matchmaking--people might intentionally let it lapse for a time. I've done that plenty, and losing access to the entire game would be pretty lame.

So, you think developers on PSN and XBL are allowed to provide multiplayer without subscription if they so desire?

Because I'm betting that's false.

That only leaves making it required for everyone, and while that might have led to a more even experience for everyone, I am sure it would have reduced sales significantly. The experience without matchmaking makes a good case for the value of those subscriptions; it's a sales pitch you can't make on a box cover.

Warframe: no PS+ required, full experience available.
Same for DC Universe online, and a few other games on PSN...
Also, subscription-based MMOs.

PS+ is free for all this weekend, no doubt to showcase the online Destiny experience... Would definitely push people over the fence...
